On Saturday, we compiled a list of the ideal draft picks for the Flyers at the No. 6 overall pick. While it was not necessarily a player rankings, it ultimately shook out to be that way, as the ideal pick was the best player available.

It was a fun story to write, so I thought to myself, why stop at one? The Flyers have three picks in the first round, so let’s do it again!

The next pick that is known for the Flyers is the No. 22 overall pick. The Edmonton pick is not yet solidified.

Taking a forward with the team’s first pick in the draft is an absolute must. However, with the next two picks, the Flyers can be much more flexible. That said, here are the five most ideal draft options for the Flyers at the No. 22 overall pick.

Ranking Flyers’ Ideal Draft Options at No. 22 Overall

Before we get too far into this, not all of these players will be available at the No. 22 overall pick, including some of the honorable mentions. This is merely a ranking of the most ideal players that could fall to the Flyers.

The No. 22 pick is going to provide Philly with plenty of options come draft night, and the Flyers could find a future franchise staple at the pick.

5. Joshua Ravensbergen, G, Prince George (WHL)

This one is not too hard to explain. While the Flyers do have promising goaltenders in the pipeline, we don’t know exactly what they will be. Until the Flyers have a young, true number one goalie, drafting goaltenders should be a priority.

Ravensbergen is widely regarded as the best goalie in the draft, and if none of the next four players are available at No. 22, he would be the ideal pick for the Flyers. The biggest reason why he is at five and not higher is that there are two good round-two goalies, and if the Flyers can fill other needs in round one, they should.

4. Cullen Potter, C, Arizona State (NCAA)

Cullen Potter is a versatile forward who can and has played both center and left wing at a high level for the Arizona State Sun Devils.

Potter has the ceiling to be one of the most dynamic forwards in the NCAA, and could be an absolute steal in the mid to late first round. He is a fast skater who can push the pace of the game, but he can also use his speed to get back in the defensive zone and be a reliable player in all three zones of the ice.

He’ll likely return to ASU for at least one more season, which will help him develop further. He likely won’t be the 1C Flyers fans have searched for, but Potter will be a solid middle-six forward for the foreseeable future.

3. Logan Hensler, RD, Wisconsin (NCAA)

Logan Hensler was once considered to be a shoo-in for the top 10, and could have possibly been the first defender off the board.

After a relatively disappointing first year in the NCAA, all of that has changed, and it’s growing more and more likely that Hensler will not even make the top 20.

That said, if he were available at 22, there are few players I would take above Hensler. He possesses size and physicality and plays a strong defensive game, complemented by good offensive abilities.

Hensler would be a great pick, and there are few players I would rather take at No. 22 over Hensler.

2. Sascha Boumedienne, LD, Boston University (NCAA)

If you’re new around here, I have a draft crush on Sascha Boumedienne. He is on a list of players that I would absolutely reach for, let alone draft in a heartbeat if he is available. In fact, there is only one player I would take ahead of him at No. 22.

While he is not a defensive defenseman by any means, Boumedienne brings size and elite puck-moving ability to the left side of the blueline group. He has learned to quarterback a power play under Jay Pandolfo, who is a great man-advantage mind. He is a good and fast skater, which, as a defenseman, can be very beneficial.

Oh, and let’s not forget to mention the 14 points he put up at U18s in seven games. That was the second most among all skaters in the tournament, and the most by any defenseman by six. Boumedienne would be a great pick by the Flyers.

1. Cole Reschny, C, Victoria (WHL) (UND Commit)

Ah, the lone player to dethrone my draft crush as the most ideal pick for the Flyers at No. 22: Cole Reschny.

Reschny comes in on the smaller side, but not too small at 5’10.5″. I have seen him be described as “one of the most slippery players in the draft”, and he is an absolute star in the making. His playmaking ability is fantastic, and he is a great scorer. He has all the tools he needs to be a long-time staple in the NHL.

The slippery center committed to the University of North Dakota and will likely make his NCAA debut this coming season. Playing in the NCHC will likely only help Reschny develop into an even bigger star.

Rescnhy is also a two-way player, which we have seen how the Flyers have valued that. Reschny, like Boumedienne, would be absolutely worth trading up for, let alone reaching for.

In fact, it might be necessary to trade up for Reschny, as he had a fantastic combine. If Cole Reschny is available at No. 22, the Flyers should make that pick in less than 30 seconds and pop the champagne afterwards.

If the 6’2″, 197 lb Logan Hensler, is there at 22. Flyers should jump on him.
