PhHN Daily: Pre-Draft Notes; Flyers Trade Up; Champions

Well, the NHL season has officially come to a close. The Florida Panthers defended their title and have won back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships.
With that, it means the offseason has officially begun! I know 30 other teams have been in offseason mode for quite some time now, but every team in the league will now be making calls, wheeling and dealing, and preparing for the draft and free agency.
In Flyers news, team management held their pre-draft media availability on Tuesday, a lot was said, but what did it mean? Speaking of the draft, could the Flyers trade up, and if they do, for whom?
AND, the draft order is officially set.

Philadelphia Flyers
Philly Hockey Now: The 2025 NHL Draft is now less than 10 days away. This will be one of the most essential drafts for the Flyers in a long while. With seven picks in the top 48, the Flyers will have the opportunity to set the foundation for the future. GM Danny Briere and AGM Brent Flahr answered questions on Tuesday, ahead of next weekend’s draft.
Philly Hockey Now: Speaking of the NHL Draft, the Flyers, with their surplus of capital, will be a threat to trade up in the draft. If Briere decides to spend assets to move up in the order, here are five players worth trading up for.
Flyers News: With the Stanley Cup Finals coming to an end, the Philadelphia Flyers now know where they will be slotted with their third pick in the first round: No. 31 overall. They acquired the Oilers’ first-rounder in 2025 by essentially pushing the Panthers’ No. 32 overall from 2024 (via Claude Giroux trade) one season back.
Florida Panthers, B2B Stanley Cup Champions
The Cup is staying in Sunrise, Florida, just a little bit longer.
After a dominating Game 6 of the Finals, the Florida Panthers have repeated as Stanley Cup Champions.
I won’t write a game story here; instead, make sure to check out George Richards’ work over at Florida Hockey Now. They had excellent coverage throughout the entire postseason of the Cats’ run to make it two straight championships.
Anyway, some great stories and posts came from Florida’s celebration.
First of all, Matthew Tkachuk is a warrior. He played through a torn adductor, “off the bone” as he said, as well as a hernia on the same side. It’s worth noting that in 23 playoff games, Tkachuk had 23 points with eight goals and 15 assists–extremely impressive.
After the locker room celebration, Panthers’ captain Sasha Barkov brought the cup back out on the ice and celebrated with Amerant Bank Arena staff. You’d have to imagine those staffers missed most of, if not all of, the celebration of the cup because they were working, so this is really freaking cool. Captain stuff right there.
Oh, and Brad Marchand is a “champian” once again.
The former Bruin celebrated the team lifting the Cup in 2011 by getting a tattoo, which misspelled champion as champian. But hey, no ragrets, right? Panthers legend Roberto Luongo poked fun at the tattoo with this celebratory post.
Now, let’s enjoy the offseason.

Gut feeling Yorkie’s days are now numbered as a Flyer…..from SoCal, perhaps DB is looking to send him home to SoCal, with either a trade with the Kings or Ducks.
Absolutely no intel on this, just my own gut feeling, but Detroit…
What are you basing this on?
For me, personally, the Flyers open interest in moving up, and the fact that they have not resigned him, despite the fact he is their top RFA.
I said , as well, there is no intel or rumors. DET wants young, NHL ready, D men, and Yorks contract have clearly hit a stalemate.
My gut
DB dropped the ball with the Stars regarding Mason Marchment. Seattle got him for a third and a fourth round pick. He averaged 51 points per year with only 15 minutes of ice time per game. And of course, he’s 6’5″.
Maybe he is working on Stars’ Robertson ..which will cost more than mid-round draft choices.
Can only dream….
