Philly Hockey Now: What will the Flyers do on draft night? Where is their mind at? What’s the process going to look like? Well, Flyers GM and AGM Danny Briere and Brent Flahr answered questions and gave us some insight during their pre-draft availability in Voorhees on Tuesday.
PhHN+: A lot of time and focus is being put on the first two rounds of the NHL Draft, and rightfully so. The Flyers do have seven picks in the first 48 selections of next week’s draft. However, you should not count out prospects drafted in the mid-rounds. With that, here are three prospects to keep an eye on during the mid-rounds of the draft.
Flyers Trade Target Falls as Stars Remain in Cap Purgatory
The Dallas Stars made shockwaves Thursday after re-signing point-per-game center Matt Duchene to a four-year deal with an AAV of $4.5 million. Despite the VERY team-friendly deal, the Stars’ cap situation got much worse, as it left them with less than $500k.
With that, the first of the Stars trade dominoes has fallen, as the team sent Mason Marchment to the Seattle Kraken for a 2026 third-round pick and a 2025 fourth-round pick.
After the trade with Seattle, the Stars opened up just shy of $5 million in cap space, but still only have eight forwards and six defensemen under contract. There is still mandatory work to be done, and another trade is likely on the way.
The Flyers should take full advantage of this.
NHL News and Rumors:
SportsNet: Connor McDavid is a free agent on July 1, 2026, and is eligible to sign his extension starting July 1st of this year. Speculists, well, speculate that he could end up on the open market. After his end-of-year availability, it seems like a mixed bag as to what he will do.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Dave Molinari writes some Trite, but True, Draft Advice for the Penguins.
Islanders Hockey Now: Trade rumors are flying all over Long Island. It seems the Hagens vs. Schaefer debate at No. 1 has been settled, but the Islanders have a unique opportunity to walk out of L.A. with Hagens AND Schaefer.
