PhHN Daily: NHL Draft Day

Published

Philadelphia Flyers news

NHL Draft day is officially here. In just a few hours, I’ll be heading up the A.C. Expressway to be in Atlantic City, where the Flyers will be set up for the NHL Draft.

The NHL Draft begins at 7:00 p.m., with round 1 taking place tonight (Friday), and rounds 2-7 on Saturday. The Flyers, who still possess six picks in the top 48, are set to have a busy weekend.

Tonight, the Flyers will have a tough choice. James Hagens? Porter Martone? Jake O’Brien? Brady Martin? Could Caleb Desnoyers fall? These are all possibilities for Philly Friday night.

For now, we sit and wait to see what GM Danny Briere and company do with pick No. 6 overall.

Philly Hockey Now: If you were the GM of the Flyers, what would you do? Well, I shared what I would do if I were the GM on draft night, sort of like a bit of draft day advice.

NHL Draft Day Rumors and News

Pagnotta: The Islanders are reportedly trying to move into the 5-7 range for a chance to select James Hagens.

Now, what assets, aside from Noah Dobson, do they have to start said conversations? That, I am truly unsure about. It will be interesting to see how their aggression turns out. Personally, I doubt they pull it off, but Schagens on draft night would be absurd.

Also, be sure to check out Russ Macias talking all of the latest Isles rumors as they continue to be at the center of trade talks.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Another threat to trade up: The Pittsburgh Penguins. Multiple reports have now said that the Penguins, who possess picks No. 11 and 12, could look to trade up in the draft. Their target? Porter Martone, James Hagens, or Roger McQueen. Dan Kingerski has the latest on the Pens’ possible move up.

Montreal Hockey Now: Could the Habs make some shocking news? Like Pittsburgh, Montreal holds back-to-back firsts in the mid-first round. Reportedly, they could move one or both of their picks. The Canadiens have been involved in rumors for two big names floating in the trade market.

The Athletic ($): The Athletic’s NHL Draft Expert Corey Pronman released his final mock draft ahead of Friday’s first round of the NHL draft, including three forwards headed to Philadelphia. Check out who the Flyers selected in his final mock draft.

A lot will depend on what Utah and GM Bill Armstrong does with the 4th pick.
If he selects Brady Martin…then DB will have the options of either Martone, or Hagens or Frondell at 6….since one of the three will be there.
