Flyers Round Out 2025 NHL Draft Class With Three Late Round Selections

Published

on

After nine selections and two trades, the Philadelphia Flyers have ended their portion of the NHL Draft.

After trading up from the third round back into the second in the early round two trade with Seattle, the Flyers were left with two fifth-round picks and a sixth-round pick. The team used all three selections to round out the draft. Here is who they selected.

Flyers Picks No. 132, 157, 164 in the NHL Draft

Max Westergard

Well, for the first time in the 2025 NHL Draft, the Philadelphia Flyers selected a player under 6 feet tall.

Max Westergard, a Finnish winger playing in the J20 Nationell in Sweden, was the Flyers’ pick at 132 in the fifth round. In 41 games with Frolunda HC in the J20, Westgard posted 19 goals and 31 assists for 51 points.

In all honesty, I am trying to figure out why exactly Westgard fell to the fifth round. Over a point-per-game producer in the Swedish junior league, a fast skater with a good playmaking ability and solid defensive responsibility, Westgard seems like a steal. He also picked up six points with two goals and four assists for Finland at the U18s.

Westgard, 17, is also one of the younger players in the draft. It is going to be interesting to see how he develops.

Luke Vlooswyk

Right on queue, the Flyers are back with size. With their second fifth-round selection in the NHL Draft, Philly selected Luke Vlooswyk.

Vlooswyk is a 6’4″ RHD from Red Deer in the WHL. Selecting Vlooswyk was the second set of teammates selected by the Flyers—Amico and Murtagh in Round 2, followed by Matthew Gard, and now Vlooswyk.

Luke describes himself as a big defensive defenseman, with an emphasis on defensive, who can add offense with a “booming shot from the blue.”

He said he prides himself on not being the flashiest player and takes pride in making a good first pass.

He also mentions that Matthew Gard is his best friend in Red Deer, and he is ecstatic to be a Flyer with him.

Nathan Quinn

The Flyers ended their draft with only their second sub-six-foot player, Nathan Quinn.

Quinn is a 5’10” center from the Quebec Remparts in the QJMHL who potted 17 goals and 29 assists for 46 points in 54 games. He is set to join the Northeastern Huskies (NCAA) for the 2026-27 season.

I knew very little about Quinn heading into the draft. So, naturally, I went to EliteProspects after the pick. One thing I read really stuck out to me: “It’s never one big highlight for Quinn — it’s just a non-stop barrage of little things and effective play that really stands out.”

That comes from Mitchell Brown from EliteProspects.

In short, the Flyers drafted a guy who does the little things right. You can never have enough of those guys. Quinn may be a late-round draft-and-stash, but that’s what the late rounds are for.
