NHL Draft
Ranking Best Available Players for Round 2

The Philadelphia Flyers surprised a lot of people, including myself, by selecting what seems to be the general consensus’s best player available at pick No. 6 in Friday night’s first round of the NHL Draft.
Then, the Flyers became even more of a shock after moving up for Jack Nesbitt at No. 12.
Needless to say, the Flyers had a busy but successful first round of the NHL Draft.
However, the road does not get any easier now that day two is here. In fact, the Flyers will have to make some pretty quick decisions, having two picks in the first eight Saturday afternoon, then another pick just eight later.
So, who are their options?
A lot of players, some that I had first-round grades on, slipped through the cracks, and will become a hot commodity on Saturday, and the Flyers are in a position poised for success.
With that, let’s rank the top 10 players available to start the second round.

10 Best Available Players in the Second Round of the NHL Draft
10. Jack Ivankovic, G, Brampton (OHL)
Ivankovic is the best goalie available. He may be 10 on my board, but I can see him sliding a bit since there won’t be a goalie run.
9. William Moore, C, USNTDP (Boston College Commit)
A two-way center with a scoring touch, decent size, and a great net-front ability. With a little bit of NCAA seasoning, Moore could become one of those guys teams wish they considered in the first round.
8. Jack Murtagh, C, USNTDP (Boston U Commit)
Jack Murtagh is a speedy, high-motor guy who loves shooting the puck. He is also one of the heaviest shooters in the draft. Murtagh is headed to Boston U, where he could see time down the middle of the LW. A potential day two draft and stash.
7. Shane Vansaghi, RW, Michigan State (NCAA)
Vansaghi fits what the Flyers have been drafting. He is a big, physical player who loves to check. To me, he should be a third-line NHL guy, or fourth-line on a really good team. He’s an energy guy, to me, but he seems to be a guarantee at that. His offensive potential is what makes him so enticing.
6. Eric Nilson, C, Djurgardens IF (J20 Nationell) (Michigan State Commit)
Eric Nilson played with Anton Frondell and Djurgardens IF, and plays a lot like him. He is an all-around player. However, the difference between him and Frondell is that Frondell has the big shot, while Nilson has the physicality. He was always a day two guy to me, but he should become an NHLer at some point.
5. Jakob Ihs-Wozniak, RW/C, Lulea HF (J20 Nationell)
Jakob Ihs-Wozniak has primarily played the RW, but could become a C. His playmaking ability is fantastic, he is an absolute sniper, and he is a power-play wizard. I certainly thought he’d go towards the end of round one, but he is available on day two.
4. Daniil Prokhorov, RW, MHK St. Petersburg (MHL)
I won’t spend too much time on Daniil Prokhorov. A 6’6″ winger who hits violently, plays hard, and works around the net. Yeah, Prokhorov sounds like a guy worth taking a risk on.
3. Milton Gastrin, C, MoDo (J20 Nationell)
So, you missed out on Anton Frondell. Well, here’s Milton Gastrin, who plays a very similar style of hockey, just without AS powerful a shot. Gastrin, in my opinion, should have gone somewhere in the early 20s.
2. Malcom Spence, LW, Erie (OHL) (Michigan Commit)
Spence is a two-way, heavy-hitting forward with a scoring touch. After scoring 73 points in the OHL last season with 32 goals and 41 assists, I thought Spence was destined for Round 1. I guess I was wrong, and he will be available on day two.
Spence is also headed to the NCAA next season, where he’ll continue to develop at Michigan.
1. Blake Fiddler, RHD, Edmonton (WHL)
Another shock, Blake Fiddler is available during the second round. Fiddler is a 6’4” defender who is a smooth skater and has two-way abilities. He can be a shut-down defender, but he can score pucks. I honestly can’t believe he’s still available.
