Flyers Offseason Mailbag: Leave Your Questions Below

Published

on

It’s time for a Flyers offseason mailbag!

A lot of the mailbag we have done previously have been questions submitted via social media, as it is hard to give readers an outlet on the site to submit their questions.

So, this will act as the official forum for questions for the offseason mailbag.

This mailbag will have a focus on questions asked about the offseason: extensions, trades, draft, and free agency. We might touch on the season outlook as well! We will look to get this next mailbag out in about a week, so if you need to think on questions, there is no rush!

Make sure to get your questions in for the Flyers Offseason Mailbag!

What would it take to get Byram from Buffalo?

Danny Deuber

Nothing, he went to the Bruins from what I read.

Jack

because it didn’t happen. “Capwages” still shows him on Buffalo.

Steve

Given cap restrictions, how likely is a trade to happen before the start of camp?

Romus

What is the drop-dead deadline date that Porter Martone can make a decision on going to the NCAA?
For Fall 2025, classes at Penn State begin on Monday, August 25th.

Thanks…Oct 3-4 they start non-conference games vs Arizona State Sun Devils….so training camp will be at the same time as the Flyers training camp in Sept.

I think Sanhiem played some of his best hockey offensively on the left side with a healthy Risto, but don’t think Drysdale should be with him and York can’t play the right side. Thoughts?

Jack

Have you considered the Christian Dvorak signing was done to acquire another 1st round pick the TDL? Given Dvorak was making $4.45 AAV from the six-year deal he had signed, is $5.4 million really that much given other teams were also trying to sign him? I see him as a better version of Scott Laughton.

George Porubski

Absolutely a pick up and flip at the deadline player. Depends on how his season goes but if we’re not in a playoff spot and we retain 50 percent salary he could bring anywhere from a first to a third in any case a bought asset. If all goes well we’re in the hunt and don’t flip but I do see the signing as a worst case asset

With how talent retention has been around the league this offseason, what kind of flyers offseason can we look for next year? Most of the big names this year had their fates decided pre-July 1st. Do you think we will see the same situation next year?

Denis

Question: When the regular season ended the Flyers were slotted to pick 4th in the draft. After the lottery drawing they dropped to 6th. Hypothetically, had they stayed at 4 who do you think they would have selected there with Schaefer, Misa, and Frondell off the board?

Robert Cwik

Considering the happiness brought by sports agent KO Sports (Gautier, Johannsson), do the Flyers have any players represented by them? Also, is the NHL concerned that KO represented several players who refused to play for the team that drafted them?

Romus

Flyers traded Joel Farrabee…he was a KO client.

Not Offsides

Another web site (which is big on rumors), just had that the Flyers have interest in Seattle center Shane Wright. Only 21, former high first round pick. Not quite sure it would make sense for the Krakheads to deal him, but would you be interested? Maybe straight up for Tippett?

Romus

I would think they would want a little more for Tippett than Wright….possibly a draft pick added also…Wright just finally come on his own last season, but then again he is four years younger than Tippett and a heck of a lot cheaper against the cap right now..

DEANO

will Ryan Ellis ever play again?

Jack

Not sure this is a mailbag question, but why do people think the best place to develop a young player is in the NHL?

Michkov is the exception and not the rule. He was already playing in a pro league against men. The Flyers had an opportunity to take control of his development by bringing him over and playing him in the NHL. It was specifically stated that he had to remain in the NHL or be sent back to the KHL. Obviously, the Flyers would prefer to get him sooner rather than later, so they could control his development.

What is the status of the contract ordeal with Ryan Johansen? Last official notice I’ve found was about the grievance hearing to be held followed by that being paused. Mainly, I’m curious about what impact does this have on the Flyers cap or dead money hit? I’ve read some commentary about no hit on the cap, while letting him have his money for the term, with each side eventually walking away at the end of the contract. Looking for clarity.
