PhHN Daily: Bold Takes; Summer Showcase; Trade Clock Ticking
I promise once the Flyers’ season rolls around, these daily stories will be a more scheduled thing. I actually love writing these sorts of whip-around, quick-hitter stories because we can talk about all things hockey. However, between summer jobs and, honestly, not a whole lot going on with the Flyers or even elsewhere, they can get a little tricky.
Nonetheless, we’re doing one today!
So, let’s get into it.

Philly Hockey Now: Who wants to get bold? Our latest story has us sharing three bold predictions for the Flyers this upcoming season. Could it be breakout seasons? A star improving greatly? It can get even bolder. Make sure to check it out.
World Juniors Showcase: The Flyers have six prospects in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for the World Juniors Summer Showcase. Representing the Flyers organization: Porter Martone (CAN), Jack Murthagh (USA), Shane Vansaghi (USA), Jack Berglund (SWE), Heikki Ruohonen (FIN), and Max Westgard (FIN).
Reports also say that Jett Luchanko (CAN) was invited to the showcase but declined the opportunity due to a groin injury.
Speaking of Luchanko, is he ready for the NHL? We discussed it in one of our most recent stories.
Also, just some housekeeping dates for those that love preseason hockey: the Flyers announced the rookie showcase series is returning to the PPL Center September 12th and 13th. Flyers and Rangers prospects will face off in an exhibition series before the preseason kicks off.

Florida Hockey Now: Aaron Ekblad was set to be one of the hottest names in free agency, until he wasn’t. Now, recent comments imply that he never intended to hit the open market.
The Athletic ($): The Pittsburgh Penguins are looking to move Erik Karlsson, but that clock is ticking. Teams that were interested found replacements elsewhere. Time is running out in Pittsburgh to move the defender.

Do you mean he “declined” the opportunity? And why would he do that–it was because of an injury, wasn’t it?

Thank you, I meant to write declined. Yes, it was due to injury, but I couldn’t find anything confirming it until now. NHL dotcom confirmed.
Hope that Pittsburgh eats all of the Karlsson contract. Of course they are in pure tank mode and will sell off their assets (Rust & Rakell) at sometime during the season and hope that the ping pong balls fall their way, similar to back in the day when they drafted 3 future HOF’s in three straight years by perfecting tanking and lucking out at the same time getting Fleury, Malkin and Cindy.
Pens did a good job…got them 5 Cups, if you want to count the first two, going back to Mario’s early 80s tank job also…then came Jagr after Mario.
One reason NHL went to the lottery ponging.
Spencer Gill could be a real find on the blueline.
