PhHN Daily: The Boys are Back; Price Trade; Penguins Lack of Aggression
It’s September, so it’s time for another edition of the PhHN Daily, and probably time for these to become consistent again.
Hockey is inching closer and closer, and action on the ice is beginning for some clubs.
Some clubs are putting the final touches on their roster, whether that be opening cap space to add more before the year begins, or making additions just to hit the cap floor.
We discuss a poll ranking every NHL team’s aggression, and even some PTO contracts for a division rival. Get it on the 9/7 edition of the PhHN Daily.

Philadelphia Flyers
Flyers X: The boys are back!
The Flyers are back at the Flyers Training Center, getting work done in the weight room and on the ice. It’s common practice for many to get some early work before camp even begins. It’s good to see the orange and black back on the ice.
Philly Hockey Now: The Guelph Storm named their captain for 2025-26, and it isn’t Jett Luchanko. In fact, he’s not mentioned in the leadership group. Could Guelph know something?
Also, how often do you see two former juniors teammates traded in a one-for-one swap? What about two OHL champions who both wore the “A” for their juniors team? Well, the Flyers and Kraken made the swap, with each team trading a 22-year-old forward.
NHL Rumors and News
Montreal Hockey Now: The Canadiens were sitting on the large salary that belongs to Carey Price. As many teams do, the Habs are able to deal his salary to the Sharks, freeing up space for Montreal, and allowing San Jose to hit the cap floor. Now, it’s up to Montreal to decide what they’ll do with the new space.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Are the Penguins… soft? Shelly Anderson dove into a recent Rotowire study and report that ranked each NHL team in on-ice aggressiveness. Pittsburgh was second to last, but in elite company.
For what it’s worth, the Flyers are exactly where you’d have expected them to be. Not necessarily at the bottom or the top, just the lower end of the middle.
New Jersey Hockey Now: With the season nearing, James Nichols writes about the four PTO contracts the Devils have inked, including a former New Jersey forward trying to extend his career.

So The Flyers are a bubble playoff team that can’t truly compete for a cup, yet still just good enough to end up picking in draft purgatory year after year void of the elite 1C or 1D prospect with a legit star ceiling needed to ACTUALLY finish a legitimate rebuild.
How is it every other rebuilding team can draft 1 or even 2 high end elite potential Centers and The Flyers can’t draft one?
Anaheim McTavish and Carlsson.
Chicago – Bedard and Nazar.
San Jose – Celebrini, Smith, and Misa.
New Jersey – Hughes and Hischeir
Ottawa – Stutzle and Pinto
The Flyers have two elite potential wingers after how many drafts and years of rebuilding? Determined to overvalue average NHLers who could be replaced at any trade deadline for a few draft picks.
Yet once again The Flyers have managed to drive a legit Rebuild into the dirt through failed trade returns, failed drafts, and overpaid contracts for aging (average at best) NHLers who are nowhere near skilled or productive enough to lead an actual Cup contender.
Meanwhile Jack Eichel, Martin Necas, Sam Reinhardt, Mason McTavish, Josh Norris, Marco Rossi, and prospects like McGroarty are or were all available at some point and or going to other rebuilding teams while we pretend Cates and Couturier are legitimate Centers to play with Michkov for the foreseeable future? That’s an even sadder joke then Morgan Frost as a 1C.
This is what happens when you use the same failed rebuild strategy year in year out.
Passing on elite talent like Buium for average bottom6 ceiling prospects like Luchanko.
Passing on Perreault for Bonk.
Passing on Caufield for York.
Passing on Cole Reschny and C. Bear for Jack Nesbitt.
Getting back Drysdale for a 5th overall Cutter Gauthier.
How many 1Cs or 1Ds have rebuilding teams actually gotten out of late 1st round picks? Brayden Pointe? Who else? Aho? Not many!!!
Boy I sure am glad we got ALL THAT “Tortorella Culture” for the past three years instead of top5 picks for legitimate elite level prospects like Celebrini, Fantilli, Carlsson, Misa, Bedard, Smith, or even a freakin Byfeild or Berkeley Catton for crying out loud.
-Said nobody ever in the history of the NHL.
Fire Briere and Jones and start an ACTUAL Rebuild before Michkov decides he wants out of Philadelphia and to play with an actual Center who can score at 0.5ppg consistently.
