According to Sportsnet, the five players acquitted in the Hockey Canada sexual assault trial, including former Flyer Carter Hart, are set to be reinstated.

Sportsnet reported that the players will be suspended until December 1st, 2025. The five players will have the opportunity to begin talking to teams starting October 15th.

Also reported by Sportsnet, part of the agreement between the NHL and NHLPA says the players have given up their right to appeal. The suspension will be served.

Hart, whose rights were waived by the Flyers amidst the trial, will come back to the league as a UFA. Comcast Spectacor CEO and Chairman Dan Hilferty said on Wednesday that he and the team will not comment on the Hart situation until the league does.

Now, just a day later, the NHL and NHLPA’s agreement is out. There has been no indication as to whether or not Hart or the Flyers are interested in a reunion.

Willing to bet Carter Hart signs with the Oilers……home town team and also sees an opportunity for a Cup.

Rico’s Active Stick

Don’t be so sure of that. The Oilers are very tight to the cap and Hart, who has gone unpaid AND hasn’t played for the past year+, will likely command a salary above that which is totally buriable in the AHL. It would be a substantial risk for the Oilers to assume he could play his way back into shape as an NHL backup.
