Flyers Trade Ivan Fedotov to Columbus
First reported by Elliotte Freidman, the Philadelphia Flyers have traded backup goaltender Ivan Fedotov to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Columbus has been searching for depth at the goaltender position, while the Flyers have a surplus, so to speak.
The Flyers are receiving a 2026 6th-round pick from Columbus in exchange for Fedotov. Kevin Kurz of The Athletic first reported the return. The Flyers are not retaining any of Fedotov’s remaining contract.

With Aleksei Kolosov returning, alongside the additions of Dan Vladar and Carson Bjarnason, the Flyers have a bit of a logjam at both the NHL and AHL levels. The general assumption is that the Flyers will run with Sam Ersson and Vladar in the NHL. That would have left Kolosov, Bjarnason, and Fedotov all to compete for time in the AHL.
With Fedtov’s cap hit being the highest of the three at $3.275 million, it makes sense that the Flyers looked to move him first. He also becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
Trading Fedotov likely means that the Flyers are confident that Kolosov will remain with the organization this season. It had been rumored that the Flyers’ young Belarusian netminder was set to return home after a disappointing season last year.
Now, the Flyers shed $3.275 million in cap space while also finalizing their goalie rotation for the 2025-26 season.

Two big thumbs 👍👍 for DB. The pick means nothing, it clears over 3 million in cap space in case another trade comes up this season. They overpaid him to lure Matvei here anyway. I respect the journey Ivan went through to get here, but in the end he couldn’t adjust to the North American game and rink.
Nice to get out of that contract for someone that was no longer in any future plans.
Thirteen years ago —June 2012— the Flyers traded a Russian goalie to the Jax for draft capital….hopefully this turns out better in the long run
How can you possibly compare Fedotov with Bob? It has already turned out better in the short run since the Flyers saved 3.25 million.
Hello. My name Ilya Bryzgalov. I hijack Not Offsides account to write this. I used play goalie for Flyers. They pay me much money to come there. They look all over for acceptable goalie. They like me and say “You play for us, yes?” I say “OK” and they write big check for me. Two years then they no like anymore. Then they pay me much money not to play for them. I say, “OK” then soon retire. Now I live in big house in New Jersey. I no have to have job. For years, I laugh when I go to ATM. I gave small amount back each month when pay Comcast bill. This OK because I use Comcast to watch Flyers play. I laugh more. Many years later, they still look for good goalie. One get in trouble for do bad things, some just bad. Defense just stand around and watch goalie try make save. Or they on wrong side. Forwards skate easy when backcheck. They no like play defense. This happen in Russia, forwards get shot. Flyers often give puck to other team so they can watch more. Other team say “thank you” and then score goal. I laugh more. I like play goalie for whatever team play against Flyers. When forwards get puck they no like shoot it. They give to teammate and say “Here, you try shot.” Many times pass not get through. Or forward who get pass further away from net. This puzzle me for moment then I laugh more. Comcast finally say “This not good, fans no like and they no come to games. So, they fire general manager. Last year, they fire hard coach. Now players can eat pizza, they happier but they still no play good. New GM now still look for new goalie. Please no call me. I happy and have peace in my soul. I stay home and read books about big universe, go for walk in the woods with my hot blonde Siberian husky, and train young Vlad to be goalie. Maybe someday Flyers call him. I laugh more.
