Welcome to what feels like the first PhHN Daily of the hockey season! With training camps now underway, this is the official start of the year, not just for the Flyers, but for the NHL.

The Flyers are back in Voorhees, as their camp has started, and we have a good sense of what the primary roster battles will be.

Around the league, one star RFA is skating with an OHL club while he remains unsigned. Another unsigned RFA has one GM growing disappointed.

Thursday was a bittersweet day for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and after a few hours, you could say the same thing about the LA Kings. Find out why and more on the 9/19 edition of the PhHN Daily.

Philadelphia Flyers

Philly Hockey Now: In case you’ve missed it, Flyers training camp has begun! NHL players have officially hit the ice in the first team activity of the season. There was a lot to learn from day one!

Speaking of training camp, we are now in the midst of several roster battles. Who is fighting for which spots on the Flyers’ roster?

NHL Rumors and News

Friedman: Elliotte Friedman reports that RFA center Mason McTavish is currently skating with the Ottawa 67’s. Training camp has begun, and the Ducks and McTavish have found “no common ground”. Friedman reports that the Ducks are unwilling to do a bridge deal.

He has to be given an offer sheet soon, right?

LA Kings: It feels like the LA Kings have been teasing a “big announcement” for what feels like forever now. Well, on Thursday, they finally made it. On the same day of the announcement of the retirement of another LA superstar, Anze Kopitar announced that this will be his final season in the NHL.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Former Flyer Kevin Hayes suffered an upper-body injury during day 1 of Penguins training camp. Dan Kingerski of PHN mentions Hayes’ slow walk to the locker room, as well as the support he received walking around Rink 1.

New Jersey Hockey Now: With camp underway, one Devils’ star remains out. Luke Hughes still does not have a contract, and the Devils’ GM is becoming “disappointed”.

Martin Necas or Mason McTavish aren’t Flyers yet?
Or they haven’t went after any top10 unprotected draft picks yet?

Frank

Bowen Byram?
Simon Nemec?

Frank

David Jiricek?

Frank

These guys surely don’t think adding Zegras and Vladar and a bottom6 Center is going to fix a 4th worst in the league team that has drafted no future or current 1C, 1D, or 1G, and has no further plan to obtain any elite ceiling prospects/players at Center or on the blue line?
Because building a bubble playoff team (AT BEST) who’s not good enough to REALLY compete for a Cup, and not bad enough to draft any elite ceiling franchise altering talent in the draft is the EXACT SAME THING WE’VE BEEN WATCHING AND BUILDING FOR 10+ YEARS OF PAINFUL OVERHYPED, OVERRATED, OVERPAID MEDIOCRITY.

Frank

Fire Briere and Jones and start an ACTUAL Rebuild before you lose Michkov because of this circus of another fake rebuild and overrated, overhyped, underwhelming prospect pool void of elite ceiling talent at premium positions.

Romus

Tippett for McTavish.
Reunite the Zegras and McTavish rivalry for 1C.

GMAN

I’d do it in a heartbeat, but the Ducks will certainly want more. Verbeek isn’t giving him away and they’ll match any possible offer sheet.
