PhHN Daily: Flyers Preseason; Anger in Pittsburgh Over Land
Wake up! The Flyers play hockey today! In fact, they’re the third Philly team to play a game on Sunday.
First, the Eagles play the Rams at 1:00 p.m., which should be a great game. Then, the Phillies look to take the series from the Diamondbacks at 4:10 p.m.
Two pretty big games for the city of Philadelphia, and while it’s just a preseason game, it gets capped off with the first Flyers game of the season.
Around the league, one team is facing some pressure from its city to get things moving on an arena plan, or cough up the land. The strangest contract negotiations this offseason are still at a standstill, and could a change be coming to the playoff format? Get it all on the 9/21 edition of the PhHN Daily.
Philadelphia Flyers
Philly Hockey Now: In case you’ve missed it, the Flyers are in the midst of training camp. Starting this past Thursday, the Philadelphia Flyers have been gearing up for the season in Voorhees.
Thursday set the foundation. Friday, things began to pick up, and Saturday was the scrimmage. Make sure to check out what you missed!
Preseason: The next step in training camp is preseason games! Now, the Flyers will get to start that! Philly will head to Long Island to take on the Islanders at 7:00 p.m. EST. The roster for Sunday’s preseason opener has not been released yet. There will be an update when that information is given.
NHL Rumors and News
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: I know our friend Dan Kingerski over at Pittsburgh Hockey Now has been chasing this story for a while now. There is anger in Pittsburgh right now over land. The said land is the intended site of a new arena in Pittsburgh. With the lack of development, the city is becoming “fed up“, and could complicate things for the Pens’ owners.
Johnston: The Athletic’s Chris Johnston believes the NHL could be changing up their wild card structure, possibly including a “play-in” like we see in the NBA. It would certainly be an interesting change.
Dreger: Darren Dreger says, “This one could be a while” regarding Mason McTavish’s contract situation. He does not know who will cave first.
To me, this situation is so odd. McTavish wants to be in Anaheim, and the Ducks see him in their long-term plans. It does not seem like McTavish is willing to sign an offer sheet, and the Ducks have no intention of trading him. At a certain point, you’d think they’d be able to agree for the sake of getting things done.
