Flyers Primer: Dress Rehearsal vs. Islanders

Everybody give a sigh of relief! The Philadelphia Flyers play another preseason game, and this one is on TV! In their second-to-last preseason game, the Flyers will take on the New York Islanders at 7:00 p.m. EST, broadcast on NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Philly is rolling out what looks to be their opening night roster, with Adam Ginning being the only bubble player in the lineup. Here is the full roster:

As you can see, it’s an NHL-heavy lineup for what feels like the team’s dress rehearsal before the regular season. Most notably, Jett Luchanko and Rodrigo Abols are not in the lineup.

With the roster, here are the projected lines for Thursday’s game.

Storylines to Watch

Flyers’ Dress Rehearsal

With the roster the Flyers are putting out for their preseason game against the Islanders on Thursday night, it feels like this is the preseason finale for many of the Flyers’ players. This could very well be the last time we see many, if not all, of the Flyers’ roster players.

That said, there is not much to watch for in this game. The only player still really fighting for a spot on the roster is Ginning, but given the fact that he is playing with this roster, it seems like his spot is to lose. As long as he does nothing drastically bad, it looks like Ginning is the 6th defenseman.

The only other storyline to focus on is the lines and special teams. What we see tonight could very likely end up being the lines and pairs we see on opening night. That goes for special teams as well. We have seen the power play in action quite a bit, whether that be in practice or in games. However, we have not really seen the penalty kill to its fullest extent because, in practice, some of the PK guys are on the power play. We also have not seen much of it because the Flyers have not had a full NHL roster in a game yet. This will become a good chance to see the power play.

How to Watch

Thursday night’s game will be broadcast on NBC Sports Philadelphia and will be aired on 97.5 The Fanatic. Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
