Philadelphia Flyers
Philly Hockey Now: It’s October. Trade rumors never circulate this time of year. Yet, the Flyers seem to be smack in the middle. One NHL Insider reports that the Flyers are keeping a close eye on which defensemen may be available on the trade market.
Anthony Di Marco threw out two big names as possible targets for the Flyers. A short-term possibility in Bowen Byram, as well as someone to keep an eye on in the long run, Quinn Hughes.
Also new to Philly Hockey Now, Jett Luchanko has made the roster out of training camp for the second straight year. That is quite impressive for a 19-year-old. Last year, Luchanko played only four games in the OHL before returning to juniors. With that same result not ruled out for this season as well, the Flyers’ prospect says he is ready for whatever is thrown at him this season.
NHL Rumors and News
Sportsnet: Who hates boring alternate jersey reveals? Like, when your team just posts them on social media. It feels like a lot of build-up just for a little post. The LA Kings set the new standard. After warming up in their home sweaters, the Kings returned to the ice in their new alternate sweaters. It was truly a surprise reveal.
Colorado Hockey Now: Sticking to that game in LA, the crowd not only saw a surprise jersey reveal, but they saw an away team milestone as well. Nathan MacKinnon became the Avalanche’s all-time leading scorer in an Avs sweater.
Vegas Hockey Now: The free agent class of 2026 is slowly dwindling away. First, Kirill Kaprizov resigned. Now, Connor McDavid and Kyle Connor are off the board. That puts a sense of urgency on Vegas and its star, Jack Eichel, to get something done before its season begins.
Florida Hockey Now: The fans in Florida got a banner-raising and a nail-biter on Tuesday. The NHL season opened with Florida raising its new Stanley Cup Championship banner, followed by a close game that ended in a 3-2 score.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Ah, yes, just how Penguins fans imagined their season would start: a 3-0 shutout victory on the road against their former head coach. The Pittsburgh Penguins went on the road and dominated three periods of hockey against Mike Sullivan’s New York Rangers to open the season.

If Quinn Hughes is in the mix for a possible defenseman I say empty the bench and get him! Trade both Ristolinen and York when they are healthy plus a few prospects and some cash or retainment of salary on some one to get that man. What makes this scenario possible is Toc and Hughes are familiar with each other from Vancouver. Hughes loved Toc also. With Hughes we would have our Desjardins. Think about it? If there is a hockey God let him give us Quinn Hughes. LOL “GO FLYERS! KICK SOME ASS THIS YEAR!!!”
Never gonna happen.
