Flyers Prospects Faceoff in Prime Time NCAA Showdown
Colleg Hockey fans, we have a good one on Friday night. No. 1 Boston University hosts No. 3 Michigan State in a matchup that features five Flyers prospects.
The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m. EST at Agganis Arena in Boston, wth the TV broadcast on ESPN2.
Philadelphia’s 2025 NHL Draft Class will be on full display, as four players from that class will be in action Friday night. Carter Amico and Jack Murtagh take ice for the Boston University Terriers, Porter Martone and Shane Vansaghi for the Michigan State Spartans.
Flyers’ 2021 7th-rounder Owen McLaughlin will also be featured in Friday’s contest. McLaughlin transferred to Boston University from North Dakota this offseason.

Flyers Prospects In Early Action this Season
Let’s start with the Spartans. Michigan State opened its season with an exhibition game against the Windsor Lancers. It took Porter Martone less than a minute to find the back of the net in their “preseason” matchup against the Lancers.
In the regular season, Martone has three assists in two games. Two of his assists were in the Spartans’ 2-0 shutout win against the University of New Hampshire. The other came in their 4-3 loss. Martone has tallied a primary assist and two secondary assists.
In the Spartans’ two games, Shane Vansaghi has yet to register a point, but that’s not to say he has not looked good early on. He is still playing that same physical play style that made him a coveted draft prospect. Getting the chance to watch him on national TV will be fun for Flyers fans.
Speaking of scoreless draft prospects, Carter Amico has yet to register a point for BU. However, Amico has missed plenty of time in the last calendar year. In fact, on draft night, he still had not gotten on the ice. His slow start is to be expected. What’s important: Amico has played in every one of the Terriers’ games this season.
Owen McLaughlin is a point-per-game player so far, with three assists through three games. The Flyers ’21 7th-rounder is playing down the middle on a talented BU team. He is going to continue collecting points.
Lastly, Jack Murtagh has just one point through three games, but it was a beauty. The Flyers’ 40th overall pick from 2025 showcased his forecheck, picked off the puck, and then used incredible patience to deke the goalie and bury the puck. It was his first career NCAA goal, a great one at that.
