The Philadelphia Flyers have reassigned center Jett Luchanko to the Guelph Storm in the OHL.

This news does not come as a shock. For the second-straight season, Luchanko made the team out of Flyers training camp. However, like the season prior, Luchanko did not do enough to stick in the NHL.

The Flyers’ 2024 14th overall selection has yet to register a point in the NHL. His 2025 stats basically mirrored his 2024 stats.

In 2024, Luchanko played in four games, no points with three shots on goal, one penalty, and a -3 rating. In 2025, he again did not register a point, with one shot on goal, a penalty, and a -3 rating.

Luchanko averaged just over 14 minutes a game (14:03) in his four games during 2024. His ice time dropped significantly in his four games in 2025, averaging just under 9 minutes (8:58).

Since he did not reach nine games played in the NHL in 2025, the slide rule is still in effect, meaning Luchanko did not burn a year off his ELC.

The writing was on the wall all season that this would be the result for the young center. Too good for the OHL, but not good enough to stick in the NHL. It’s a shame that 19-year-olds can’t play in the AHL.

Now, Luchanko will head back to Guelph, which is 6-5-2 through 13 games this season. Will he stick in Guelph this season? That remains the question. In 160 OHL games over his career, Luchanko has tallied 144 points on 46 goals and 98 assists.

Not a surprise. I hope he can get it together down there.

Great. Now I can watch more of Hathaway, Abols and Deslauries, none of which will be here when it matters.

At least Luchanko won’t have to endure playing in the prospect pit of despair known as the Phantoms until later in the season when Guelph’s season is over.
