The Philadelphia Flyers earned what defenseman Cam York described as a “gutsy win” Tuesday night against the Montreal Canadiens. While the team had been missing offensive production in their recent games, the Flyers certainly found some greasy goals on Tuesday.
Sticking with the Flyers, one winger’s name is back in trade rumors. Based on recent reports, there could be two teams whose needs line up with what the Flyers can offer.
Around the league, it feels like the Western Conference arms race could be starting soon, with two teams already desperately looking to bolster their forward group. Also, could we have a young rivalry growing?

Philadelphia Flyers
Philly Hockey Now: The Philadelphia Flyers started off hot, cooled down, and bounced back in a thrilling 5-4 shootout win in Montreal on Tuesday. Philly had been looking for any sort of offensive production, and they found it on Tuesday.
Though they cooled off, the Flyers were consistently doing the things head coach Rick Tocchet has been looking for. They were creating traffic, getting sticks in front of the net, and scoring on “hard ice”. The defense may have had a rough period, but the Flyers pulled out a gritty win against the Canadiens.
Daily Faceoff: The Owen Tippett trade chatter generated by Dave Pagnotta has quieted off. However, the Flyers’ recent struggles have once again raised questions about the future of their forward group. With contenders looking to bolster their middle-six forward cores, Anthony Di Marco wonders if Tippett’s days with the Flyers are numbered.
NHL Rumors & News
NHLTradeRumors.me: Di Marco listed two specific teams as potential players if the Flyers do look to trade Owen Tippett. The first is the LA Kings, alongside the Minnesota Wild. Both teams have been mixed up in trade rumors.
First, the Kings are looking for more “firepower” in their top-six. They may have to wait before they can make the kind of addition they’re looking for. The Kings need to move fast. Could they have their own solution in-house?
Di Marco himself reported that the Wild are in need of a middle-six forward to bolster their room. There is certainly a trade fit with the Flyers, but if Philly holds firm on their stance regarding Tippett, Minnesota may have to look elsewhere. Here are three potential trade targets for the Minnesota Wild.
San Jose Hockey Now: There is no doubt that Macklin Celebrini is one of the best and brightest young talents in the NHL. He will often get compared to No. 1 overall picks from years before and after him. You’ll hear Matthew Schaefer brought up, but Celebrini vs. Bedard is a real conversation. Some say Connor Bedard is better than Celebrini. Ryan Reaves says there’s no way.

The Flyers need to make room by the end of the year for Martone and Bump. Who goes? The likely answer is Tippett and Cates. Koneckny or Couturier would be better but between NCL’s and long term contracts it would seem tough to move either of them. I know people are going to come on and say how can you trade Koneckny or Coots or Cates. The Flyers need to stop falling in love with their players(Cates) and overpay to get a potential #1 defenseman or #1 center down the road. Zegras was a nice move but he has already been shifted to the wing after 10 games. This team needs to make bold moves to become a contending team in the future. All you have to do is look at last weekend to see there are no untouchables on the Flyers.
All well said. I’m not sure about Bump yet…too many highly touted prospects have not panned out.
Tippet trade…
DO NOT get Byfield.
Minnesota, tell them to draft exciting players instead of their usual boring hockey they so dearly love.
Celibrini_vs Bedard, seriously?
Do hockey pundits actually watch?
Do they have some vested interest in him?
Perhaps Tippett and York to the Canucks for Hughes….the money would work since Hughes will be looking at double-digits AAV…$10/11M neighborhood.
That works for me as long as we can resign him. I would even throw in more if I had to. We need dominant star players to compete.
