Questions have been raised about what the Flyers will do with Adam Ginning. Now, we have our answer.

The Philadelphia Flyers have officially assigned defenseman Adam Ginning to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (AHL) on a conditioning loan. Since it is a conditioning loan, Ginning still counts towards the Flyers’ 23-man roster and does not have to clear waivers.

Ginning can remain in Lehigh for 14 days before the Flyers decide whether or not to bring him back, or send him through waivers. To be eligible for this loan, you have to be a healthy scratch for five straight games.

The left-shot defenseman has played in five games this season, but has not seen the ice since October 25th. In Ginning’s five games in the NHL, he has no points and a +/- of 0.

When Emil Andrae is with the Flyers, it becomes clear they prefer him over Ginning and Egor Zamula. Now, Ginning will get a chance to hit the ice for the Phantoms instead of sitting out with the Flyers.

The Phantoms will have five games while Adam Ginning is there on his conditioning loan, three road games bookended by home games. He does not have to stay for the full 14 days, but cannot stay in Lehigh any longer without a decision.

Ginning will likely make his return to the Phantoms lineup on November 19th when the Phantoms take on the Rochester Americans at the PPL Center.

Update

Ginning has been placed on waivers by the Flyers at the end of his conditioning stint.

That now puts the Flyers roster at 22 players, leaving a spot open for a call up. There is currently an extra forward and defenseman on the roster.
