Flyers Host Annual Hockey Fights Cancer Night
On Thursday, the Philadelphia Flyers will host their annual Hockey Fights Cancer night.
A part of their night, the Flyers will enter the arena in lavender jerseys. The arena LED lights, as well as the dasher boards, will also be lavender during Thursday’s contest. Continuing the Hockey Fights Cancer theme in the arena, the Flyers’ tunnel will be lined with “I fight for” cards.
Flyers Daily Podcast host Jason Myrtetus will kick off the evening with the ceremonial puck drop. Myrtetus was diagnosed with Stage 3 colorectal cancer in late December 2024, and as of October 31st, 2025, shows no evidence of cancer.
The lineups will be read by Layton Kovol, who was the top fundraiser in Pennsylvania for the 2025 October Saves campaign, raising over $6,000 for cancer research in a month-long effort. Kovol is one of six fundraisers that will be at Thursday’s game. They raised over $20,000 last month. Sam Ersson and Dan Vladar teamed up with October Saves, making a donation for every save made during the month of October. That donation was matched by Flyers Charities.
During warmups, Flyers players will be wearing skate skins or goalie masks designed by young cancer patients. The children collaborated directly with the player wearing their designs.
Hockey Fights Cancer is a night that hits home for head coach Rick Tocchet, who revealed his brother Dan survived his fight with cancer. When asked what this night means to him, Tocchet said, “My brother went through this form of cancer. He beat it. It means a lot. You’re in the day-to-day, hockey coach, and you forget about what’s really more important in life. This awareness, and all that stuff, really kind of clues you in. It makes you know how blessed we are.”
