It’s been over a month since Adam Ginning last suited up for the Philadelphia Flyers. Two weeks ago, Philadelphia sent Ginning to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms for a conditioning stint to get him playing in the AHL and avoid putting the defenseman on waivers.

When his 14-day stint with the Phantoms concluded, the Flyers had two choices. They could either bring him back to the NHL or waive Ginning in hopes that he clears waivers.

On Sunday, the Flyers opted for the latter, placing the defenseman on waivers.

Now, after the 24-hour waiver period, Ginning has cleared waivers and is set to remain with the Lehigh Phantoms in the AHL.

The 2018 50th overall pick by the Flyers has spent the bulk of his professional career down in Lehigh Valley. Ginning, a 6’3″ left-shot defender, has just one point, a goal, in 16 games played in the NHL over four seasons.

Ginning had an impressive camp and earned his spot on the Flyers’ roster. The 25-year-old defenseman looked poised to have his first full season in the NHL. That was before Emil Andrae solidified his place on the blueline.

With Rasmus Ristolainen nearing his return to the lineup, one of the Flyers’ extra defenseman needed to be traded or waived. That has now been resolved with Ginning clearing waivers.

Now, Philadelphia can make a call-up to fill the open roster spot. Or, they could leave that spot open for Ristolainen’s return.

That’s a lot of D-men, hopefully they can move a few for help at the trade deadline.
Need some playoff hockey this year. It’s been way too long.
