Philadelphia Flyers news, the sale of a major NHL franchise, an NHL trade board, and more, all on the 12/18 edition of the PhHN Daily.

The Flyers got some bad news about Tyson Foerster’s injury, which will keep him out for months and likely the season. On the other hand, the team did have a big bounce-back win their last time out.

One Flyers’ rival was just sold, possibly breaking the record set by the Tampa Bay Lightning’s sale in 2023 as the largest sale of an NHL team. Elsewhere around the league, we have a new NHL trade board, and some talk out of Newark.

Get it all on the 12/18 edition of the PhHN Daily.

Philadelphia Flyers

Philly Hockey Now: An absolutely horrible break for the Flyers. Initially, the team expected Tyson Foerster to be out for 2 to 3 months with an upper-body injury that did not require surgery. However, after further testing and medical consultation, the team and player decided surgery is the best option, keeping Foerster out for 5 months, likely meaning his season is over.

The last time out, the Flyers trailed early, but not for long. Philly answered a late-first-period goal before the horn and never looked back. It was a dominating 4-1 win for the team in orange and black. Check out 5 observations from the Flyers’ big win in Montreal.

Next, the Flyers will look to continue the momentum built on Tuesday in their Thursday matchup with the Sabres. Here is what you need to know.

The Athletic ($): The Athletic NHL insider Chris Johnston has released his trade board 2.0. Not only does it contain a few players that could be solid fill-ins for Tyson Foerster while he is out, most likely for the rest of the season. Johntson’s trade board also has one Flyer in the top-30.

NHL rumors & news

Montreal Hockey Now: The Canadiens have not taken that next step expected of them after a great season last year. Part of that stems from the team’s second line production. Marc Dumont breaks down their season performance, proving they still need some help.

It’s almost like they could use a Christian Dvorak-type player.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The sale is finally over. Fenway Sports Group has sold the Pittsburgh Penguins franchise to the Hoffmann Family of Companies for an estimated $1.7 to $1.8 billion. Dan Kingerski has everything you need to know about the Penguins sale for Pittsburgh Hockey Now.

New Jersey Hockey Now: On the 12/18 edition of the PhHN Daily, we get two stories from our friend James Nichols over at New Jersey Hockey Now.

The first: it’s sort of a bombshell. No-movement clauses got in the way of the Devils’ pursuit of Quinn Hughes. Ondrej Palat and Dougie Hamilton are the two players not so quietly being shopped by New Jersey. When asked by New Jersey Hockey Now if he was asked to waive his trade protection, Hamilton dodged the question.

Did Dougie Hamilton block the Devils from landing Quinn Hughes?

Despite missing out on uniting the three Hughes brothers in Newark, likely due to bad contract clauses, GM Tom Fitzgerald’s job is reportedly safe. However, Nichols writes that he can’t sit around and has to act fast.
