The Philadelphia Flyers officially placed 25-year-old defenseman Egor Zamula on waivers on Thursday, the team announced.

Zamula has not drawn into the lineup since December 7th vs. the Colorado Avalanche.

In 13 games this season, the Russian defender has just one assist and a +4 rating. Zamula has played in 168 NHL games, scoring 8 goals and 41 points with a -12 rating.

If the defenseman clears waivers, he will likely be assigned to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, where he has not played since the 2022-23 regular season.

The young defenseman had fallen out of rotation, with Noah Juulsen grabbing that last spot on the blueline. When Cam York went down with an injury, the team opted to call up and play rookie Ty Murchison instead of Zamula. With Rasmus Ristolainen back on the active roster, the 25-year-old has become the team’s eighth defenseman.

The following 24 hours will be interesting. With Zamula having 168 games of NHL experience and being so young, teams could be interested in claiming the defenseman.

He is a 6’3″ left-shot blueliner – that could draw some interest around the league.

The Flyers’ roster now sits at 22 players. Could they be opening up a roster spot for someone specific?

Never seemed to get any better.

mark

Yes,he seemed too inconsistent,2 or 3 good games followed by 2 or more bad games.

GMAN

Flashes of mediocrity at best

Romus

If he goes unclaimed…Phantoms could have nine dmen down there.
Bonk, Murch, Kyrou, Schmidt, Guenette, Ginning, MacDonald, Zamula, and Grans…..something has to give. .
