Philadelphia Flyers
Philly Hockey Now: Thursday was a busy day at Philly Hockey Now. A Flyers blog, roster news, and game day content. In case you weren’t around on Thursday, here’s what you missed.
First, could it be time for the team to call up a star prospect? With Tyson Foerster expected to be done for the year, there is now no better time to give Alex Bump the call.
If they decide to make any roster move, Bump or not, the Flyers needed to make a roster move. Ahead of the NHL roster freeze (Dec. 19 11:59 PM EST), the Flyers waived defenseman Egor Zamula.
Now, to the game.
After a dominant start, the Flyers collapsed en route to a 5-3 loss vs. the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday. It was a tale of two games: a strong and fiery start by the Flyers turned utterly collapse. Get your postgame analysis here.
NHL rumors and news
The Athletic ($): Olympic season is right around the corner, and rosters will be determined sooner rather than later. Shayna Goldman of The Athletic breaks down and predicts the Team USA roster, including who just misses out.
OilersNation: What a tough break for Edmonton. The Oilers recently acquired Tristan Jarry from the Penguins to solve their problems in goal. In Thursday’s game vs. the Boston Bruins, Jarry exited the game with a lower-body injury.
Forever Blueshirts: Let’s check in on the Flyers next opponent. The New York Rangers find themselves in that same mushy middle that the Flyers are in. With that, Jim Cerny writes that the Rangers have a “chance as good as anyone” to make the playoffs.
Toronto Hockey Now: This season has not met typical Toronto Maple Leafs standards. Fans are not happy, and the players are hearing it, including Auston Matthews, who let the Toronto faithful know he hears them after his game-tying goal.
Colorado Hockey Now: Let’s go back to Olympic rosters for a second. Goalie has been quite the issue for the Canadian team. Could a newcomer fix that? Aarif Deen writes that Mackenzie Blackwood is being considered for the Olympics.
