Happy holidays William, two questions for you,I have been seeing a few stories about Steven stamkos, are you hearing anything along those lines.I know he certainly isn’t the player he once was,but at least he would shoot the puck on the power play. The other one is do you think matvei is going through a sophomore slump and do you see him getting out of it anytime soon.Thank you.
What’s your take on Ersson? Last year the backup goalies for the team had save %’s of .880 (Fedotov) and .867 (Kolosov) and that was definitely considered not good enough to be a #2 goalie in the NHL. At this point of the current season Ersson is sporting a save % of .869. Do you think he deserves to stay with the club and try to figure this out, or would the team be better off sending him down to Lehigh Valley for more consistent work and calling up someone else? As I write this he has lost 4 straight games helping the team earn just 2 of a possible 8 points in those games. His save % in these 4 games was just .864.
Will:
I read your article concerning Tocchet’s comments regarding Michkov. Tocchet is right, as there is far too much drama and wasted words on this subject. A 21-yeaar old is being microscopically analyzed , instead of being allowed to be coached, learn and grow. Surely there must be other things to discuss regarding the improved Flyers than whether Michkov blew his nose(figuratively speaking) at the right time in the game. What are your thoughts?
I see it both ways. Tocchet is absolutely right, guys like Drysdale, York, and I’ll throw Andrae and even Konecny in there too, are playing really well and we are not talking about them enough.
At the same time, Michkov is the star of this team, and has, from day 1, been put on a pedestal by the organization. He’s what the fans want to hear about, so of course lots of questions will be asked. Tocchet has to expect that. If he doesn’t, then he has to understand why.
