Philadelphia Flyers
Philly Hockey Now: The Philadelphia Flyers bounced back from a sluggish start on Tuesday, going from being outshot 10-0 in the first 11+ minutes of the game, to a 19-shot second period, and a 6-3 win vs. the Vancouver Canucks.
The comeback was fueled by grit and goaltending. It had a playoff-game feel, with physicality throughout. The Flyers hung tough and played a great game. Carl Grunstrom continues his heater, but what else happened? Get it all on the Flyers Postgame Blog.
Christian Dvorak’s name is generating a lot of conversation regarding an extension. So, if the Flyers go down that road, what are the pros and cons of a possible extension?
And to wrap this side of things up: World Juniors talk. The Flyers had five prospects in play on Monday, Day 4 of the tournament. Jack Berglund and Porter Martone headlined a strong showing by the prospects.
NHL rumors & news
Edmonton Journal: Let’s start outside of the NHN network. The Edmonton Oilers inked winger Andrew Mangiapane to a two-year, $3.6 million AAV deal on July 1. It’s not going well. Now, the depth winger is on the trade market. The Oilers are looking to get out of a bad UFA signing.
New Jersey Hockey Now: The New Jersey Devils were embarrassed by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday. They were shut out 4-0. It was a poor effort by the Devils. One where their captain tried to get his team in it by fighting, something Nico Hischier typically does not do. Especially when it’s vs. the 30+-pound, two-inch-taller Matthew Knies. Hischier wasn’t the problem, but his team lacked “balls”.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Pittsburgh Penguins made a move to get even younger in the NHL. Which, all things considered, is probably a good thing, given that Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin are still there. They acquired Yegor Chinakov on Monday for a package of picks and a veteran. Dan Kingerski breaks down the trade and Chinakov’s fit on the Pens.
Boston Hockey Now: The Boston Bruins are struggling once again. After six straight losses, the Bruins are trending towards the bottom of the division. So, Jack Studely breaks down which Bruins could be available at the NHL trade deadline.
San Jose Hockey Now: Olympic rosters are released on Wednesday. All eyes will be on Canada to see what they do with their roster. One of the biggest story lines was Macklin Celebrini, who is off to a phenomenal start. The 19-year-old, World Juniors-eligible center, has reportedly made the Canadian roster ahead of Wednesday’s selection.
