Former Flyer Suspended by New Team

According to the AHL transaction log, former Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Egor Zamula has been suspended by his new team, the Pittsburgh Penguins.

This comes after the Penguins traded for Zamula, swapping him with Philip Tomasino in a rare trade between rivals.

Before being dealt by the Flyers, the defenseman switched agents to Dan Milstein of Gold Star Hockey, the same agent who got Alex Texier’s contract terminated by the St. Louis Blues.

Zamula was waived by the Flyers before clearing waivers and being assigned to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the AHL. Before the trade, it was reported that he wanted to explore the idea of mutually terminating his contract in Philadelphia so he could explore other NHL opportunities.

Following the trade, Zamula was assigned to the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Penguins, the AHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Now, the defenseman has been suspended by the SWB Penguins. The former Flyers is reportedly a no-show to his new team.

Scranton Wilkes-Barre has yet to release an official statement.

For a suspension, does the player still get paid? I suspect Zamula will eventually go back to Russia to play in the KHL. No great loss for the Pens, IMO.
