After all of that, Egor Zamula has been waived by the Pittsburgh Penguins for contract termination. This is the second time being waived since the Flyers waived the defenseman on December 18th, 2025.

The former Flyer created a bit of a stir after failing to report to the Penguins. He was assigned to the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Penguins after being dealt from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh in exchange for Philip Tomasino.

Tomasino reported to Lehigh Valley (AHL), where he has a point in two games played for the Phantoms. Zamula never reported to the AHL.

The initial report was that the Penguins were ok Zamula’s lack of presence. He was suspended for failing to report, and that’s that.

Now that he has been waived for contract termination, Chris Johnston of The Athletic is reporting that multiple NHL teams have interest in the 6’3″ left-shot defenseman. Zamula wanted an NHL opportunity, but was not going to get one in Philadelphia or even Pittsburgh.

In 168 NHL games, Zamula had 8 goals and 41 points, plus a -12 rating.

Now, eyes shift outside of the State of Pennsylvania to see who signs the blueliner. He can ink a deal worth about half of his $1.7 million cap hit.

With the termination, the Penguins clear cap space and are now free of his remaining salary. Essentially, the Penguins acquired cap space in exchange for Tomasino in their 12/31 trade with the Flyers.
