OFFICIAL: Flyers Lock Up Christian Dvorak with New Extension
The Philadelphia Flyers have officially extended center Christian Dvorak.
The two-way forward has agreed to a five-year, $25.75 million deal to remain in Philadelphia, after signing a one-year, $5.4 million contract this past July. Dvorak’s new deal will carry a $5.15 million cap hit.
The 29, soon to be 30-year-old center will be 35 when his new contract expires.

This season, Dvorak has 9 goals and 25 points in 39 games. He is just 13 points shy of his career-best year, 2019-20, while with the Arizona Coyotes. That season, he also scored a career-high 18 goals, a mark he reached in 70 games.
Dvorak is on pace for a career year, on track for 18 goals and 32 assists for 50 points.
The Flyers have now committed to Dvorak as a part of their plan in the near future and beyond. His new five-year deal keeps him in the mix in Philadelphia as they look to become contenders. Dvorak will help bridge the gaps between the current roster and the future impact of Jett Luchanko, Jack Nesbitt, Jack Berglund, and even Heikki Ruohonen.
Given the term of the contract, he will likely be around longer on a manageable salary.
Center has been a position of need for the Flyers for quite some time, and they found something great with Dvorak. Not only has the center been impactful on the ice, but he also fits right in with the locker room.
Dvorak has been used as a top-line center, a penalty-killer, and even gets slotted in to the power play from time to time. His versatility makes him essential.
With most of the star-studded free agent class of ’26 already locked up on big deals, Dvorak was setting himself up for a big payday. The Flyers did not let him reach free agency.

And the cycle continues.
You’re clueless. At first, everybody thought it was an overpay and it probably was. But when you take a look at it now this is a great deal. He has fit into the line up like a glove. He is diversified with his game that he can play up and down the line up, he kills penalties and takes draws as needed. He is a solid 2C. He has a good rapport with Tocchet as well.
So, what upcoming free agent would you have preferred the team to sign?
I guess you’re okay now that the rebuild is over. No number 1 center, no number 1 dman. Three third line centers. Good luck with that. You know who signs a guy like Dvorak? A team with a solid lineup at the top that’s looking to add good depth down lower. The Flyers are nowhere near that level. Dvorak is all those things you did mention, no knock on him. IMO, he was going to be their best tradable piece at the deadline, cause I don’t think they are close to a serious contender. Not this year or next year, with the holes in their lineup. That doesn’t make me clueless, it makes me want to contend for the cup at some point, not win a playoff series, then have another six year hiatus. Have a nice evening.
I would have flipped him at the deadline for a first rd pick which is more valuable than another over 30 bottom six forward having a outlier year.
Just another unforced error and classic Flyers move here.
Grinders over talent.
Depth over skill.
Culture over cups.
You’re actually spot on! I definitely wouldn’t count Dvorak as a 2C?! Yeah, maybe on the Flyers! Because they don’t have anybody higher then 3C! But, I wouldn’t close the door on a possible sign and trade to a more contending team? Hey, u never know…
I would have signed him, but not for 5 years. Maybe 3. Now sign Zegras!
I like it.
I’m my opinion. If their future plan is to use him as a 3V, then this makes sense. The only question remains is where do they get 1C & 2C?
A deadline trade for a 1st rounder makes more sense.
3C, not 3V
You still have to move him at the deadline or Summer.
There easily would have been a taker for a guy averaging 0.65 points per game, can play any forward position on any line and has a FO winning percentage ~55%. Dumping him to a contender for a 1st rounder would have been easy. The only issue with that is that player wouldn’t be NHL ready for a few years and all this draft capital can be squandered super easily as Briere did with the Nesbitt trade, the Luchanko trade and the Amico trade….
Guy literally has HALF a season of quality production under his belt and Briere gets gooey and forks over $25M+. Insane way to build a team.
What are the odds that we’re here in 15 months talking about the albatross contract for a below average player?
