Matvei Michkov Misses Flyers Practice, Status for Tuesday Uncertain
VOORHEES, N.J. – Philadelphia Flyers star Matvei Michkov was not on the ice at Monday’s practice. The team returned to the Flyers Training Center for their first practice since the four-game road trip, ahead of their showdown with the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
Everyone was accounted for on the ice except for one player: Matvei Michkov.
The Flyers’ star was absent during Monday’s practice, which was a bit odd. During his tenure with the team, he has yet to miss a practice until Monday.
After the practice, head coach Rick Tocchet explained why the star was not on the ice.
“I think he took a shot off the foot [vs. Edmonton]. We didn’t know about it until today. So, he is getting checked out,” said the Flyers’ bench boss.
That said, Michkov’s status for Tuesday’s game vs. the Ducks is in question.
For what it’s worth, the forward did not exit the game. Now, at that same point, Tyson Foerster took a shot off the skate from a point-blank range earlier in the season, but remained in the game, and then missed four games with that injury.
It looked like Michkov took friendly fire from Trevor Zegras in the late half of the third period. Around the 11-12 minute marker into the period, the Flyers forward skated across while Zegras was trying to send a pass cross-ice, taking the pass off what looked like his left skate. It looked like Michkov bent over a bit in a wince of pain after the play, but stayed on the ice.
This season, Michkov has 9 goals and 23 points in 40 games.
The Flyers have yet to release a statement, aside from Tocchet’s explanation at practice. An update will be provided when more details emerge.
