(Update) Flyers Matvei Michkov a ‘Game-Time Decision’ on Tuesday vs. Ducks
Philadelphia Flyers’ star Matvei Michkov has officially been tabbed as a “game-time” decision for Tuesday’s game vs. the Anaheim Ducks, per head coach Rick Tocchet.
Michkov missed Monday’s practice after taking a puck off the skate. After Monday’s practice, Tocchet explained that the winger had expressed some discomfort before practice, leading to him sitting out and undergoing further evaluation.
During his pregame availability on Tuesday, the Flyers’ head coach revealed that Michkov had an X-ray of his foot, which came back negative, but he is still dealing with some swelling.
Tocchet said his young star would skate in the morning and test out his foot to see how he was feeling ahead of Tuesday’s game vs. the Ducks.
Michkov was one of the first players on the ice for the team’s optional morning skate and was also one of the very last players off the ice. Nikita Grebenkin, who filled in for Michkov at practice on Monday, was off the ice early.
However, it is worth noting that since Sunday was a mandatory day off, and he missed practice on Monday, Michkov’s extended skate could have just been him pushing it a bit before the game. The 21-year-old forward also seemed to be in a good mood following his skate, making a point to say hello to everyone in the locker room.
If I had to take a guess, it would be that Michkov will play.
Philadelphia hosts the Anaheim Ducks at 7:00 p.m. EST, where we will get further indication of Michkov’s status pre-game.
Update
After Flyers warm-ups, it appears Michkov will be held out of Tuesday’s game against the Ducks. Nikita Grebenkin took his spot in line rushes. He never took the ice pregame.
This feels very precautionary. The young forward was in very high spirits earlier in the day after a very long skate.
