PhHN Daily: Flyers Cruise; Trouble in Jersey; Mini Trade Deadline?
Well, Tuesday night was a fun one at Xfinity Mobile Arena for the Philadelphia Flyers.
Quite seriously, that was one of the most insane sports environments I have witnessed in person. The crowd was relentless, the team was energized — it was a fun game to see.
Around the league, we have one metro-rival, where quite frankly, something has to give, and soon. we also take a look at the Flyers next opponent, and talk about a possible mini trade deadline.
Get it all and more on the 1/7 edition of the PhHN Daily!
Philadelphia Flyers
Philly Hockey Now: The Philadelphia Flyers cruised to a 5-2 win vs. the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday in Trevor Zegras’ first game against his former team, and Cutter Gauthier’s second game returning to South Philly.
Zegras may have downplayed how much the game meant to him pregame, but he opened up about how much he was looking forward to it afterwards.
It was a playoff-like environment in South Philadelphia, and Zegras and the Flyers thrived.
In case you missed the game on Tuesday, it wasn’t all fun. Both Bobby Brink and Jamie Drysdale exited the game after suffering injuries, and did not return.
Daily Faceoff: The Flyers extension of Christian Dvorak signals their playoff push is for real. However, Anthony Di Marco reports that defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen is not completely off the table as far as a trade goes.
NHL rumors & news
The Athletic ($): A mini, Olympic trade freeze goes into effect from February 4th at 3:00 p.m. EST through 11:59 p.m. EST on Feb. 22nd. Pierre LeBrun writes that we could see a mini trade deadline ahead of the trade freeze.
New Jersey Hockey Now: Things uh, well, things aren’t too good in Jersey right about now. The Devils were blanked in a 9-0 loss to the Islanders on Tuesday, but that’s a small piece of the frustration. Something has to give in Jersey.
Vegas Hockey Now: Has it been smooth sailing as expected in Vegas to start the new year? Not quite, but things are getting back on track as the Golden Knights snap a five-game losing streak.
Toronto Hockey Now: Let’s take a look at the Flyers next opponent, the Toronto Maple Leafs. Last time they came to Philly, it was a scary scene as Chris Tanev suffered a whiplash effect, have to be stretched off the ice. He eventually returned to play, but his season is in question after another injury.
