(Updated) Flyers Center Rodrigo Abols Exits Saturday Game vs. Rangers With an Injury
The injuries keep piling up for the Philadelphia Flyers, as center Rofrigo Abols exited the team’s game vs. the New York Rangers on Saturday.
Just over six minutes into the game, Abols fell awkwardly into the boards, and it looked like his skate got caught up on the ice, leaving his right ankle stuck as he fell. Watch at your own risk.
Unsurprisingly, the team quickly announced that the fourth-line centerman will not return to the game with a lower-body injury.
This season, Abols has 3 goals and 10 points in 41 games, and he was injured in his 42nd game.
Abols is one of the Flyers’ four Olympians, being named to Latvia’s roster over the summer. He joins two of the other Flyers’ Olympians, Dan Vladar (Czechia) and Rasmus Ristolainen (Finland), who are both currently out with injury.
An update will be provided when one is made available.
Update
After speaking with the media postgame, Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet said he has heard an update on Abols. The Flyers’ coach said he would not get into details, but it’s “not good.”
I don’t want to put words into someone else’s mouth. However, Tocchet’s response seemed pretty telling as to the severity of the injury.
You have to feel bad for Abols. He was finally getting a chance for a full season in the NHL. Not to mention, he was set to represent Latvia in the Olympics, likely as their best forward.
