The Philadelphia Flyers have officially placed center Rodrigo Abols on injured reserve after exiting Saturday’s game with a lower-body injury.

Abols, 30, has 3 goals and 10 points in 42 NHL games this season. He was in the middle of his first full season in the NHL.

The fourth-line center was playing a good role for the Flyers killing penalties on top of his fourth-line role.

Abols had a dominant training camp and preseason, giving the Flyers no other choice than to keep him around.

The Latvian centerman was also set to represent his country at the Olympics, likely in a large role.

In a corresponding move, the Flyers have recalled forward/center Lane Pederson from the AHL Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Pederson has played in parts of three NHL seasons from 2020 through 2023. He has played for the Coyotes, Sharks, Canucks, and most recently, the Blue Jackets.

In 71 career games, Pederson has 4 goals and 11 points.

Since his last NHL appearance, Pederson has spent the past two seasons with the Bakersfield Condors (EDM) in the AHL. This season with the Phantoms, Pederson 13 goals and 28 points in 37 games.

With the injury to Abols being described as “not good” by head coach Rick Tocchet, Pederson could have the chance to stick on the Flyers roster.

Pederson could make his Flyers debut as early as Monday, when they take on the Golden Knights in Vegas at 8:00 p.m. EST.
