Philadelphia Flyers
It’s a short Philadelphia Flyers section on the 1/21 PhHN Daily. There has not been much news since the team’s game vs. Vegas on Monday. So, let’s get into it.
Philly Hockey Now: The Flyers’ trip out West continues on Wednesday when they take on the Utah Mammoth at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. A quick primer in the daily: Utah is. riding a 7-game point streak, while the Flyers have finally snapped their losing skid. Bobby Brink, who returned from injury vs. Vegas, was very noticeable on Monday, but like every other Flyers not named Travis Konecny, was not noticeable on the scoresheet. He is my player to watch.
Now, a brief ICYMI from the day prior. An NHL Prospect/Draft expert expressed some concern about the Flyers’ rebuild. Is it time to sound the alarm? 1Cs don’t hit the trade market often, but one might just be available. So, let’s look at his fit in Philly and whether the Flyers should overpay to get him.
NHL rumors & news
Seth Jones won’t be able to go to the Olympics, meaning Team USA had to find a replacement. Who is it going to be? Adam Fox or Lane Hutson. Wrong. It was neither. Welcome to Team USA, Jackson LaCombe.
I got the chance to watch LaCombe play at Minnesota when the Gophers would come to Hockey Valley to take on the Nittany Lions. I have always enjoyed watching him as a defenseman. Plus, it’s always cool to see four-year NCAA players still becoming big-name NHL players.
As for why LaCombe, not Hutson or Fox, I think it’s simple. LaCombe played at Worlds. The latter did not. I also think the fact that the other two defenseman are more offensive, while LaCombe is more defensive, shows what Bill Guerin is prioritizing.
TSN: A lot of not-so-great rumors were started about the Ottawa Senators with goaltender Linus Ullmark taking a leave of absence. The Senators have debunked the rumors previously. Now, with Ullmark nearing a return, the goaltender sat down with Claire Hanna to discuss the real reason for his absence and really open up.
I give Ullmark a lot of props for having the courage to do this interview. Opening up about your mental health is not an easy thing to do.
Sticking with TSN, on the latest edition of Insider Trading, there is more on Ullmark, as well as the latest trade rumors, including the newest on the fire sales in New York and Calgary.
New Jersey Hockey Now: Now, let’s take a look at a Metropolitan Division foe. The New Jersey Devils, like the Flyers, have been trending in the wrong direction. Like the Flyers, New Jersey found an unlikely 2-1 win against a surprising team from out West. James Nichols breaks down the Devils’ gutsy win.

That was an amazing article about Ullmark and I also congratulate him on being so forth right. I, too, suffer from depression and took a leave of absence from my job at the time (about 10 years or so ago) because if I hadn’t, I’m not sure I would be here today. Negative thoughts and feelings will absolutely destroy your life if you don’t get help. My help was separating myself from the bully boss I had at the time, and my life took a better, brand-new direction. I’ll always have depression but, like Ullmark, you find ways to cope. Kuddos to him.
