PhHN Daily: Flyers Blanked; NYC Trade; Wallstedt Rumors
The Philadelphia Flyers did not have the ideal game to carry the momentum following the road trip. In fact, it was probably the exact opposite.
On the 1/27 edition of the PhHN Daily, we discuss that, as well as the latest trade talk on the Philadelphia Flyers.
Around the league, we look at a trade between two rivals in one city. We also look at another big name that is rumored to be on the trade market.
Get all of that and more on the 1/27 edition of the PhHN Daily.
Philadelphia Flyers
After a great road trip where the Flyers picked up five out of six points during a challenging three-game stretch, they returned home and were shut out by the New York Islanders in what was a pretty important game as far as the playoff race goes.
It was one of those weird days where the Flyers did not look extremely awful. Guys like Matvei Michkov, Noah Cates, Denver Barkey, and Owen Tippett really looked good. That was not the problem. The issue was that nobody else really showed up.
Other than that, the Flyers still haven’t really solved Ilya Sorokin. He is ALWAYS great against the Flyers. So, more than four guys need to show up against him. Plus, you probably need more than four players to have more than one shot on goal. There was a lot to nitpick.
Philly Hockey Now: Before the game, we took a look at the looming mini-trade deadline and assessed what the Flyers should do ahead of it.
Finally, the Flyers are getting healthier once again. Rasmus Ristolainen has been activated off injured reserve, and Hunter McDonald has been loaned back to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
NHL rumors & news
Could the Wall in St. Paul be on the move?
The Minnesota Wild are reportedly considering trading standout netminder Jesper Wallstedt in exchange for an impact forward, likely a center, per Elliotte Friedman.
I think this is an interesting scenario, but not one I see the Flyers going down. Wallstedt is a great, but I don’t think the Flyers have what the Wild would want in return.
The Athletic ($): Carson Soucy is on the move, but not very far. The New York Rangers traded defenseman Carson Soucy to the New York Islanders in exchange for a 3rd round pick. It was the first trade between the New York teams in 16 years. Here are the details.
Forever Blueshirts: So, the Rangers traded Soucy. Jim Cerny breaks down the trade from a Rangers perspective. He also mentions what is next for the team that plays in Manhattan, as their retool continues.
Toronto Hockey Now: William Nylander got fined $5,000 for flipping the bird to the broadcast camera while showing him, as well as the rest of the injured Maple Leafs, sitting in the pressbox. Dave Litman updates Nylander’s status after his middle-finger salute.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: We took a look at the Flyers and what they should do as the deadline approaches. Another team in a bit of a surprising situation is the Pittsburgh Penguins. Dan Kingerski breaks down the Penguins’ options as the deadline approaches.
