Where has the Flyers Black Alternate Jersey Been? Could it be Replaced by a ‘Home Town Remix’ Uniform?
During the NHL season, most teams, the Philadelphia Flyers included, cycle through three sweaters, or three and a throwback throughout the season. That is most seasons. This one has been a little bit different.
Through 56 games this year, we have only seen the Flyers cycle through their traditional home orange sweater and their away white jersey. That’s it. So, that raises the question: are the black alternate jerseys done?
Since 2018, the Flyers have had an alternate sweater that is black, with a thick orange stripe around the elbow, another orange stripe around the waist, black numbers with a thin white outline, and an orange nameplate with black font.
I won’t lie, it was not my favorite uniform.
Towards the beginning of the season, many teams, including the Avalanche and Kings, surprised their fans with a new third jersey on their opening night. That led to speculation regarding the Flyers’ jersey collection. Could they possibly be bringing back the 90’s-2000’s black jersey?
Well, that was a conversation for some time. While that conversation has yet to be proved right, it has yet to be proved wrong as well. The Flyers wearing their current alternate could put it to rest, but alas, they have chosen not to up to this point.

Could a new Flyers black jersey be on the way?
Even if it does not come this season, could a new black sweater be on the way?
There is a little rumor that the NHL is creating what’s called the “Hometown Remix” program. It is intended to be similar to the City Connect jerseys used in MLB. Per the all reliable source, Reddit, each team has submitted a base color, likely resembling their city in a way. Per the Reddit post, the Flyers submitted color is… that’s right, you guessed it, black!
So, could that be why the Flyers have not yet worn their black alternate jersey? Could they have sent it to an early retirement?
This seems like a concept that will happen. A trademark search through the US Patent and Trademark Office shows that Fanatics, the official uniform supplier of the NHL, has filed a trademark for Hometown Remix.
I have also seen an updated post from one of the original posters suggesting that the Flyers’ color is grey, not black. This was the original post.
Many teams submitted black as their base color. So, I understand if the Flyers want to be different. Still, it would be a bit of a bummer not to get a new black alternate.
My opinion remains unchanged. Bring back the 90’s-2000’s black alternate!

What would you like to see as a new alternate jersey?

Bring back the pants from ’81…..do not understand why the NHL outlawed them after two seasons because of safety.
The first season just the Flyers had the pants, the second season the Hartford Whalers had them as well. The league stated some BS about the puck being able to hide in the black color of the Flyers pants. The Whalers ones were in their dark green.
The current black alternate, a holdover from an outdoor game, is one of the least creative jerseys. The black jersey you mention was a good one, but I like the idea of something new that represents the city. However, I am afraid of what this organization would come up with. Let’s see – they’ll probably think “gritty”, so with a gray base color…oil refineries? The Frankford EL? Trash piled up? Come on, it matches our “Flyers Hockey” mindset of greasy goals (scored infrequently), mucking and grinding (never mind our small forwards lost the puck battle), and tight defense (oops, he snuck in the back door). Golf clubs for missing the playoffs again?
I’d like to see Lindros and Leclair jerseys on the ice again. And Renberg.
The 97 black jerseynis great but, it can be impr9ved.
Hire a competent art design team and have them combine the Flyers logo with inspiration from Judas Priest and Accept aethetic.
This would circumvent having a Flyers jersey that looks like the Padres city connect.
That said, could teal actually make it’s way onto a third jersey?
