No Shortage of Offense

Just what you’d expect out of a game with two of the worst offenses in the NHL: A 3-3 game after the first period.

The Flyers struck first with a just throw it up and pray sort of shot.

Jamie Drysdale (6) fired a shot that deflected off a Blackhawks defender and into the back of the net. That was 3:59 into the game.

Chicago would answer the call just over three minutes later, with Pat Maroon (5) getting the Blackhawks on the board. Joe Veleno (6) would give Chicago the 2-1 lead less than two minutes later.

Travis Sanheim (7) would tie the game back up for the Flyers just 12 seconds later with a shot that barely squeaked past Spencer Knight. Matvei Mickov (30) picked up his second assist of the game and his 50th point of the season with the secondary assist on the goal. He also had the primary helper on the Drysdale game opener.

Bobby Brink (11) would be the next to score just under four minutes after Sanheim tied the game back up. Brink was able to dig the puck out and push it in, giving the Flyers their second lead of the period.

It looked like the Flyers would take the 3-2 lead into the first intermission; however, with less than two minutes to go in the period, Connor Bedard (20) tied the game, bringing the score to 3-3 after 20 minutes.

There was no lack of scoring in Sunday’s first period.

Scoring Party Continues

The scoring party would continue for one team.

The Blackhawks would score first within the first three minutes of the second period, with Tyler Bertuzzi (19) striking first in the second frame and creating the third lead change of the game.

Ryan Donato (24) would score for Chicago on the power play just over four minutes later, stretching the lead to two.

Travis Konecny (24) would get on the board for the Flyers just past the halfway mark of the second period. He redirected a Drysdale (12) shot and scored his second goal in as many games.

However, the scoring would not stop there. Donato (25) would score his second power-play goal of the period less than seven minutes after his first. Donato had two power-play goals in one period, while the Flyers have not scored a power-play goal in the month of March.

Chicago took a 6-4 lead into the second break.

Slow it Down

It was an exhilarating first two periods of scoring in the game. The third period–not so much.

Lukas Reichel (7) scored the only goal of the period, extending the Blackhawks’ lead to three.

The Flyers would have one more power play chance in the third, which shockingly enough, the Flyers were unable to score.

The two failed power-play opportunities puts the Flyers at 0/30 on the man-advantage in the month of March with four games remaining in the month.

The Blackhawks would hold on to their 7-4 lead at the final horn.

What’s Next for the Flyers

The Flyers will head to Toronto to close their five-game road trip against the Maple Leafs on Tuesday.

10 games left, why not get rid of rocky bottom and put a new coach in and give him a 10 game trial to see if they can get the power play going.Btw,go buffalo and Nashville. The third pick is within reach,at least until the pong pong balls screw the team.

Actually, bad idea. The Flyers are trying to stay in the top 5 for the draft are go higher! They need to definitely lose both to the Sabres, in regulation! Also, lose to the Preds, in regulation!

Jett Luchanko may be in Philly in the next few days. See how he will do in 5 of the remaining 10 games…get him pumped for July dev. camp and then the pre-season.

10 games left. 4 vs teams in playoffs, 3 vs teams on the cusp of playoffs and 3 vs Nashville and Buffalo. Another run of 1-8-1 could make them drop to 3 or 4. But they will somehow shoot themselves in the foot by gaining too many points and have the ping pong balls cause some team to pass them and they’ll pick 6th or 7th and miss out on top 5 talent.
The only time the ping pong balls gods smiled on them was when they picked #2, missed out on Nico Hischier and we all know how that turned out.
