The Flyers and Rangers will renew their rookie series at PPL Center in Allentown on Sept. 15 and 16.

In last year’s inaugural games — the first time Flyers coach John Tortorella was behind the bench — the Flyers’ Tyson Foerster scored an overtime goal in the opening game and Sam Ersson made 36 of 37 saves. Noah Cates scored a shorthanded goalie and Olle Lycksell scored a goal in each game.

The Flyers swept the series with 2-1 (OT) and 5-1 victories.

The PPL Center is the home of the Phantoms, one of the Flyers’ minor league affiliates.

“The two-game Rookie Series vs. the New York Rangers is such a marquee event to kick off a new season of hockey for both the Flyers and Phantoms,” Flyers general manager Daniel Briere said in a statement.

“It’s a great weekend in Allentown and a wonderful opportunity for our fans to see the up-and-coming talent.”

Tickets for the games go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at PPLCenter.com. The opening game on Sept. 15 is at 7:05 p.m. and the Saturday, Sept. 16 game is at 5:05 p.m.
