Report: Flyers, Blues Working On Trade For Kevin Hayes And Other Players
The Philadelphia Flyers and St. Louis are working on a trade that would send Kevin Hayes to the Blues, according to The Athletic’s Jeremy Rutherford.
The trade is thought to include several players from each team. The Blues have three first-round draft picks in the draft — 10, 25 and 29. Such a trade would jump-start the Flyers’ rebuild, which is how general manager Daniel Briere said how the team would proceed.
A source confirmed the Flyers-Blues trade conversation and that the deal did involve multiple players from each side.
Briere said two days ago that Hayes had value to the team and would be hard to replace. Hayes has been the subject of trade rumors for months.
A report from Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said the trade was being held up because “at least one of the possible participants has not waived [his] no trade/no move protection.”
It is not known whether the hold up is from the Flyers’ side or the Blues’ side.
According to CapFriendly, the Flyers have six players with no movement or no trade clauses:
- Sean Couturier, no movement clause
- Travis Sanheim, no trade clause
- Hayes, 12-team no trade clause
- Nicolas Deslauriers, 20-team yes list
- Cam Atkinson, 10-team no trade clause
- Cal Petersen, 10-team no trade clause
The Blues have nine players with a clause:
- Brayden Schenn, NTC
- Brandon Saad, NTC
- Justin Faulk, NTC
- Torey Krug, NTC
- Nick Leddy NTC
- Jordan Binnington NTC
- Colton Parayko, NTC
- Pavel Buchnevich, 12-team NTC
- Marco Scandella, 7-team NTC
Friedman also reported the Flyers are working on a deal with the Hurricanes to send defenseman Tony DeAngelo back to Carolina.
Also, the Flyers announced they signed defenseman Louie Belpedio to a two-year, two-way contract worth $1.55 million. Belpedio, 27, played last season with the Phantoms.
Wow! That would be something. Good reporting!
Supposedly the deal , which if the pieces finally fit together would be unreal and further show how much of a clown Fletcher was. Hayes and Sanheim for St Louis’s #29 first round pick and Torey Krug. Flyers would retain a percentage of Hayes’ contract. Krug has a NTC and will not waive it to come to Philly, so now Briere needs to find a third team that Krug agrees to and is willing to take on his 3 years @ 6.5 per contract. The Panthers are looking for a new defenseman, but will they be able to take on his contract? Of course, if a third team can’t be found, then a substitute player would have to be swapped for Krug, but then the first round pick could become a second since the Blues would no longer have the salary dump.
That was really good info Gregg. Thanks for posting it.
Thanks for this information, Gregg. I don’t like giving both Hayes and Sanheim for a late first round pick that may or may not develop and a 32 year-old Krug. Maybe, if we could flip him for a good return elsewhere but that’s doubtful. I need more coming our way from the Blues.
Also saw a rumor of DeAngelo + to Carolina for D Brett Pesce, Flyers retain 50% of salary. I like this depending what the + is.
Should be a very interesting week.
You’re correct about DeAngelo going back to Carolina, but I think it may just be for a prospect. A third team needs to get involved for Briere to flip Krug to since he has his NTC and won’t waive it to come to Philly. A prospect from the Blues could be coming our way as well. Many moving pieces, but it would be great to get out of the albatross contract of Sanheim’s that Chucky boy gave him. Fletcher’s archaic mindset, similar to Clarke and Homer has put this once proud franchise in proverbial quicksand and hopefully Briere can dig us out.
A No Trade Clause is the dumbest, most irresponsible language a GM can include in a player contract. It creates a ttail waging the dog’ scenario in which the paler has all the power. That is downright stupid! Just like how the NHL sets mteam salary caps, I would like to see in the next CBA the NHL to introduce – and hold steady on – limiting No Trade Clauses to one (1) per team (one (1) too many in my opinion, but…). If the Players Union doesn’t like it, TOO BAD. If Wayne Gretzky can be traded, then any other NHL player can be traded.
Agree. It hampers a team’s flexibility, especially when the player with the NTC regresses or doesn’t live up to the contract given him, such as Sanheim. By the way, can you believe that Fletcher gave Nick Delauriers a partial NTC contract?
