Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Cam York has signed a two-year, $3.2 million contract, general manager Daniel Briere announced Monday.

York, 22, is considered a potential centerpiece of the Flyers’ defense moving forward. He scored a career-high 20 points in 54 games with the Flyers last season. He had two goals and 18 assists.

York has played 87 career NHL games and has five goals and 23 assists.

He started last season by surprisingly getting demoted to Lehigh Valley after training camp. He played 20 games with the Phantoms and scored three goals and 10 assists. He returned to the Flyers in December and played well the rest of the season.

York was the Flyers’ first-round pick (14th overall) in the 2019 draft.

Earlier Monday, the Flyers announced a deal with forward Noah Cates on a two-year, $5.25 million contract.
