Rodrigo Abols Makes his NHL Debut

Flyers forward Rodrigo Abols will make his NHL debut on Tuesday against the Red Wings. He draws in for Scott Laughton, who is unavailable for the game due to a personal family matter.

The 6’4″ Latvian forward played strong during training camp but was sent down to Lehigh Valley (AHL), where he has earned 19 points (9G, 10A).

Abols will make his NHL debut at 29 after four seasons in the Swedish Hockey League before returning to the AHL/NHL.

Keep an Eye on the Couturier Line

The Flyers have seemingly found consistency in their top six, with the Frost and Cates lines producing well for the Flyers. Now, eyes are on the bottom six to see if the Flyers can find another consistent line.

After his return from being a healthy scratch, Joel Farabee has joined a line with Flyers’ captain Sean Couturier and Matvei Michkov. In two games with that line combination, Farabee has two points (two assists vs. Islanders), Couturier has three (1G, 2A), and Michkov has two points (1G, 1A) as well.

The Couturier line will look to keep producing and give the Flyers another consistent combination.

Previous Matchups

The series is tied 1-1 after two games this season. The Flyers have the one-goal edge, outscoring the Red Wings 8-7.

The Flyers are 5-4-1 against the Red Wings in their last 10 games. The Flyers will be without their leading scorer against the Red Wings in that 10-game stretch, Scott Laughton, who has 13 points in nine of the 10 games. Travis Konecny was the next leading scorer during that span, scoring 9 points (1 G, 8A).

Laughton scored four goals against Detroit earlier this season and earned an assist in the second meeting between the two teams.
