Hockey season is over. Hockey season begins.

Vegas wins the Stanley Cup on Tuesday night. Las Vegas pumps out the odds on Wednesday for next season.

The Flyers have extraordinarily long odds to win the 2024 Stanley Cup according to BetMGM. The Flyers are tied with the Blackhawks, Coyotes and Sharks for the 27th worst odds at +15000. Sounds about right for the Flyers, a rebuilding team on the mend.

The only teams with longer odds are the Ducks and Canadiens at +25000.

Interestingly, the Flyers were exactly the same going into the 2022-23 season — 27th worst odds and +15000.

Colorado, which won the 2022 Cup, is the favorite to win the Cup next season at +800. Right behind the Avalanche is Edmonton at +900 and Boston at +1000

Fourth is Toronto, which hasn’t won the Cup since 1967, at +1200 along with Carolina.

Defending champion Vegas is sixth at +1300.

Current odds for the NHL draft is Adam Fantilli to go second to Anaheim at -700, ahead of Leo Carlsson at +700 and Matvei Michkov at +1600. There were no odds listed for Connor Bedard, the presumed No. 1 pick going to Chicago.

Odds for Columbus with the third pick is Carlsson at -145, followed by Will Smith at +185 and Michkov at +550.

This Past Season

It’s always fun to do some checks and balances on the sports betting world.

BetMGM’s top five going into the 2022-23 season were Colorado (+425), Toronto (+850), Florida (+1000), Tampa Bay (+1000) and Vegas (+1400).  The book nailed both finalists in its top five. Colorado lost in the first round to Seattle.

The Buyout Window

The NHL announced the first buyout window will open Friday and continue through 5 p.m. on June 30. Teams much submit qualifying offers to restricted free agents or they become unrestricted free agents on July 1.

The Flyers made offers to five players Wednesday — forwards Morgan Frost, Noah Cates, Olle Lycksell, and defensemen Ronnie Attard and Cam York.
