Former Flyers forward Simon Gagne has been named general manager of the Quebec Remparts, recent winners of the prestigious Memorial Cup.

Gagne was the Remparts’ assistant coach under head coach and general manager Patrick Roy. The Remparts play in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, a circuit where Gagne played for three years for the Beauport/Quebec franchise from 1996-99.

Gagne is the third former Flyer to land a management job *this week*. Patrick Sharp and John LeClair joined the Flyers’ front office as special advisors to hockey operations. LeClair and Sharp on a line centered by general manager Daniel Briere could be tough to handle in an alumni game, right?

Gagne played 11 seasons for the Flyers, from 1999-2010 and again in 2012-13. In 2010, he scored the Game 7 winning goal against the Bruins that brought Philly back from a 3-0 series deficit and a 3-0 deficit in the deciding game.

The Flyers went onto the Stanley Cup finals, where they lost to the Blackhawks in six games.

He was drafted 22nd overall — the Flyers have the 22nd overall pick in this year’s draft, by the way — in 1998.

Gagne scored 264 goals and 271 assists for the Flyers in 691 games. He also played for the Kings, Lightning and Bruins. He won a Stanley Cup with the Kings in 2012.

Gagne’s first order of business will be hiring a coach to replace Roy, the Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender who resigned and hopes to return to coaching in the NHL.
