Cutter Gauthier was invited to Philadelphia Flyers Development Camp but declined, general manager Daniel Briere said at a news conference Saturday afternoon.

Gauthier was the Philadelphia Flyers’ top draft pick in 2022, the fifth overall selection. He is considered the team’s top prospect along with newly drafted Matvei Michkov.

“Cutter was invited, declined to come,” Briere said. “We’re assuming that is because he has played a lot of hockey with the World Championship, lots of travel. So, we’re not too worried about that. We don’t have Matvei, either.”

Development Camp begins Sunday and runs for four days.

Briere was asked if there was a disconnect between Gauthier and the Flyers.

“No. We’ll find out a little bit more,” Briere said.

“We’re trying to figure out why he didn’t want to come. But at this point, I’m not too worried about that.”

Gauthier’s Schedule

Gauthier, 19, played a 32-game schedule at Boston College last season. He played seven games at the World Junior U-20 Championships in Canada in December and January.

He also was one of the standouts for Team USA at the World Championships in May in Finland and Latvia. Gauthier played 10 games at the Worlds, scoring seven goals and two assists as the Americans finished fourth.

“Obviously for the fans and even for us it would have been fun to see those two guys on the ice,” Briere said.

“For the moment, it gives us the chance to focus a little bit more on the rest of the group.”

Thirty-nine players are scheduled to participate at the camp at the Flyers Training Center in Voorhees. The roster and schedule are linked here.
