Reports: JVR Signs 1-Year Deal With Bruins; Flyers Sign Ryan Poehling

Flyers forward James van Riemsdyk signed a one-year contract with the Boston Bruins on Saturday according to multiple reports.

The Boston Globe, The Daily Faceoff and Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported the deal. The deal reportedly is for $1 million.

JVR, 34 was an unrestricted free agent.

He made $7 million in 2022-23. He scored 12 goals in 61 games. He scored 146 goals in 527 games over eight seasons with the Flyers. In his career, he had 300 goals in 940 games.

The Flyers picked JVR second overall in 2007. Chicago took Patrick Kane with the first pick. JVR played his first three years with the Flyers.

In the 2012 offseason, JVR was traded to Toronto for Luke Schenn. He played with the Maple Leafs from 2012-18. JVR was voted as the 100th best Maple Leaf in history, notable for an Original Six franchise that started playing in 1917. 

The Flyers signed JVR as an unrestricted free agent in 2018.

 

Flyers Add Player

The Flyers will sign Penguins forward Ryan Poehling, according to Sportnet’s Jeff Marek.

Poehling, 24, was the 25th overall pick by the Canadiens in 2017. Last year was his first in Pittsburgh. He scored seven goals and seven assists in 53 games. In three seasons with the Canadiens, Poehling played 85 games and scored 13 goals and nine assists.
