Former Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Tony DeAngelo cleared waivers Saturday, one day after the team unconditionally waived him.

The Flyers now are in position to buy out DeAngelo, which was their intent when they waived him. It will cost $3.3 million to buy out the final year of his $5 million deal.

DeAngelo is now an unrestricted free agent and able to sign with any team.

DeAngelo played one year in Philadelphia. He signed a two-year, $10 million contract in 2022. He was a healthy scratch for the final five games of the season.

DeAngelo played 70 games last season. He scored 11 goals and 31 assists for 42 points. He also was a minus-27, a clear defensive liability.

In his NHL career, he has played 340 games over seven years, with the Coyotes, Rangers, Hurricanes and Flyers.

With Tony DeAngelo buyout, another messy divorce for the Flyers.
