Philadelphia Flyers prospect Matvei Michkov has, for now, gotten out of his difficult hockey situation in Russia.

Michkov has been loaned from his SKA St. Petersburg team to HK Sochi, SKA coach Roman Rotenberg confirmed Monday. Both teams are in the KHL, Russia’s top hockey league.

The SKA Ice Hockey Cup tweeted: “Matvei Michkov will continue the season on loan with Sochi. The mutual decision was taken for the benefit of his career following discussions between Matvei and the management. We wish the forward a successful campaign! #hcSKA”

Michkov, whom the Flyers drafted with the seventh-overall pick in June’s draft, had played in just one of SKA’s first four games. In the game he played, he had 6 minutes, 12 seconds of ice-time.

Michkov was a healthy scratch in the other three games.

He played with Sochi last year, scoring 20 points (nine goals, 11 assists) in 27 games. It’s fair to guess that Michkov will get additional ice-time with his new team.

Michkov is considered the Flyers’ top prospect and one of the top players coming out of the 2023 draft.
