The Philadelphia Flyers lost to the New York Rangers, 4-2, in the first game of the Rookie Series in Allentown on Friday night.

Flyers camp invite Matt Brown, from Wood Ridge, N.J., and Boston University, scored the first goal on a power play at 18:59 of the first period.

Denver Barkey and Bobby Brink got the assists.

The Rangers tied the score on a deflected power-play goal by Karl Henriksson in the second period while Flyers forward Elliott Desnoyers was in the penalty box. The Rangers took the lead at 2-1 on a goal by Dylan Roobroeck that eluded Flyers goaltender Nolan Maier, another camp invite.

Flyers fourth-round draft pick Alex Ciernik tied the score at 19:29 of the second period. Jacob Gaucher and Adam Ginning had assists.

“Matt was good … Barkey was good,” said Phantoms coach Ian Laperrière, who coached the Flyers rookies Friday night. “There’s no panic. It’s just the first scrimmage.”

The Rangers’ winning goal was scored by Ryder Korczyk at 9:56 of the final period. New York tacked on an empty-net goal by Matthew Robertson.

The teams will play the final game of the Rookie Series on Saturday night at 5:05 p.m. (NBC Sports Philadelphia+ will televise).
