The potential was there for a matchup that someday could take place at the Flyers Training Center. Matvei Michkov on one side, goalie Ivan Fedotov on the other.

The setting wasn’t Voorhees, though. It was a KHL game between Michkov’s HC Sochi team against Fedotov’s CSKA Moscow team.

Michkov played but Fedotov didn’t. He didn’t even dress for his team’s 7-1 victory over HC Sochi on Thursday.

Michkov was a minus-2 for the game. He played 17 minutes and 4 seconds over 20 shifts. He had one shot on goal and one blocked shot.

For the season, Michkov had two goals and three assists in six games. He is a plus-1. You’ll remember that Michkov, who the Flyers selected with the seventh overall pick in June, originally played with SKA St. Petersburg.

After Michkov was healthy-scratched three times in the first four games, he was loaned to HC Sochi, where he has flourished.

Fedotov is 3-4 with a 2.16 goals-against average and .911 save percentage. He was at the center of international intrigue over his contract this summer. The IIHF believes Fedotov has a valid contract with the Flyers and sanctioned him from playing in Russia through the end of the year.

The Russian Ice Hockey Federation didn’t care about the sanctions and played Fedotov in the first game after the IIHF ruling.

Flyers draft pick Alexei Kolosov plays for the Minsk Dynamo. He is 1-4 with a 2.64 goals-against average and a .896 save percentage.

Kolosov, a 2021 third-round pick (78th overall), is on a one-year loan to Minsk Dynamo.

Egor Zavragin was drafted by the Flyers in the third round of the 2023 draft, the 87th overall player selected. He was selected in the round after Carson Bjarnason. Zavragin plays for Khanty-Mansiysk Mamonty Ugry, of Russian Junior Hockey League.

Zavragin is 11-6-1, with a 1.56 GAA, and .920 save percentage.

Alexander Appleyard, a contributor for The Athletic, tweeted this about Zavragin: “First game in two weeks for @nhlflyers Yegor Zavragin today, in the MHL, Russian juniors.

“Had been used as 3rd goalie on a 1000 mile roadtrip in the middle of month by VHL (Russian AHL) team.

“Nice return to action, stopped 26/27 shots (.963 sv%) in a 2-1 win.”
